Cuca GirlA horrible story told wonderfullyI really enjoyed this podcast even though it was hard to listen to at times. I loved the fact that it was so to the point and not repetitive. Some podcasts rehash the same info over and over. This one doesn’t. Owen Bennett-Jones reported it so well and his voice is perfect. Thanks for all your long and hard work!

Lune 27The AssassinationFor someone that was not real familiar with the assassination. I found this to be very informational!! I think the reporter did an excellent job of investigating and reporting on those investigations. I definitely better understand what went on and how her assassination came about. Great job to all of those involved!!

riz bajwaImportant but annoying narrationA very important piece of Pakistans history. Would have given 5 stars but for the annoyingly pompous narration by the journalist . Second star docked for sticking with age old prejudices and biases when it comes to adopting a position towards Pakistan . Why not let journalism speak for itself ? Why adopt a judgemental forebrooding tone . Mainstream media needs to grow out its shell and limitations of bias and adopt a fairer narrative when talking about young nation states trying to find their feet in this rather nasty universe of power and realpolitik

nixfinityBBC Standard of ExcellenceVery important story to preserve for history and document fully. I’m listening in 2021, and have no concern that it was released in 2018 and thankful that I found it. The assassination was unconscionable and should be solved and prosecuted fully. Nevertheless, I do believe that Bhutto and her father are portrayed in a light more favorable than all relevant facts would dictate, which isn’t relevant to the underlying attack. Time and again this country supports terrorism and is a danger to the world with nuclear weapons

UkmichaelSuperb PodcastIncredible Background behind the assassination attempts Could never understand why the USA gave $Ms every year.

CjbernsGreat investigation and story tellingI’m new to non sports podcasts, in fact this is my first non sports podcast I’ve listened to. It was so engaging and loved how live interviews and real sound was incorporated. This kept it interesting, the length was right to, not too overwhelming.

Tiny Tina tunaJournalism at it’s best!In-depth and well narrated. Appreciated the author responding to critics regarding romanticism of BB. Murder was her redemption...and that is such a profound thing for family and friends to process. Thank you!
-
DocNyrScary! How prescient was Benazir when she advised the USA against funding jihadi fighters in Afghanistan against the soviets. We now have taliban and al Qaddafi
-
Scott515Why journalism is so critical to our futureThank you Owen Bennett-Jones and the BBC. What an incredibly in-depth listen on this tragic event.
-
cardon80538Well doneVery Comprehensive. All of us have to live with the conclusions; it's frustrating yet a good reminder of where we have come and where we need to go.

Bama Band guyLove the podcast “The Assassination”It’s gripping, and a deep dive into a society that is secretive and harsh. Hard to comprehend this living in the West.

NZL-appuserWell produced series on a complex storyIt’s a multi threaded story, told with ease and high quality production values. The short, direct, uncluttered sentence structure makes this an easy listen. Packed with rich imagery in each tightly produced episode, you’ll feel the emotion of her homecoming, the growing sense of unease approaching The Assassination, and the investigation to no where following it. OBJ does mention at the end of Ep. 10 why the corruption allegations against BB aren’t explored, and why he thinks it’s not important to this particular series on the assassination.
-
DiminishingThe BBC and OBJ at their bestGreat information, presented clearly and without fabricated drama. Beautifully presented, edited and narrated. Thank you.

kevane52Great series!I learned so much!

MrChoudhuryFascinating coverage, frustrating realityI was very captivated. Some part of me wondering if her reference to Musharraf was symbolic (to emphasis he didn’t do enough to protect her because she was in direct competition). Also her husband may have later taken a step back and avoided blaming the military to secure possible future for their son to run for the office? Possibly that was in her will and he didn’t want to make him a target at a very young age? I wonder how the All Rounder Imran Khan planning to tackle all these? Why is those terrorist breeding institutions are still standing? Such a mess. Very sad for average Pakistani citizens.

Erick SoláAmazingAn amazing podcast about an even more amazing person. The courage of Mrs. Bhutto is an example for all strive to. Thanks for the podcast and great work to the creators!
-
CknutsoqWell doneReally well done. Would have appreciated some discussion on how her gender was perceived and whether there was any validity to the corruption charges. Maybe a podcast on her life would be a good follow up!
-
Allison SpeaksCompelling & BrilliantI was a political operative at the time of the assassination and felt instinctively how much backstory there might be. This podcast is brilliant, compelling & beautifully produced. Thank you for all your work & careful attention to unraveling a complex event.

leylaamurEngaging podcast but room for improvementI really enjoyed the way this story was put together, but I thought that the incredulity shown by Owen Bennett Jones over government corruption really took away from the story. He mentioned how he lived and reported from Pakistan for so long that I found it hard to believe that he could be so outraged while reporting the story. Of course, the corruption in the investigation of any death is wrong, however isn’t it a given that corruption at the state level happens everywhere? Why not instead of acting morally outraged get down to the nitty gritty of government corruption? I also think that a more balanced view of Benazir Bhutto would have given depth to the story. Mentioning any mistakes or statements she made that the Taliban took offense to doesn’t justify her assassination.
-
Aspenleaf26The assassinationThis should be turned into a movie. Sorry state of Pakistan and so called Muslims

-
KetumileExcellent and informative seriesI enjoyed this very well researched and narrated podcast tremendously. I listened to the first 6 episodes back to back, and learnt a lot about Ms. Bhutto, the politics, and her assassination and investigation into it. Highly recommend it.

-
"ice cold" pierre boulezBrilliant.Owen Bennett-Jones provides one of the best examples of journalism, history, story-telling, a brilliant narrative and investigation. I can't recommend this any less than 5 starts.
-
TMFPeterVBrilliant!Very thorough reporting from someone that has covered Pakistan for decades with a complicated story about an important historical event told clearly and in a captivating way. Although unlikely, I hope it helps to bring about change in Pakistan so that the intelligence services stop colluding with jihadist groups generally and the truth comes out about the Bhutto assassination specifically. Thank you BBC!
-
dianeNJThe AssassinationExcellent. Well narrated detailed account.
-
t_josephOk but nothing newThe podcast narrative was well structured and managed to grapple with a massive amount of information. But it focused on too narrow a window of material to tell that clear narrative, sacrificing a great deal of the complexities of the situation. I expect the podcast introduced those unfamiliar with Bhutto to a new and interesting story. But in the end, it offered little new (either facts or interpretation) to listeners who already had some basic background. Perhaps a bit of a missed opportunity to really dig in.

gijane09Thorough and Masterfully Written and RecordedI am excited to say this is my favorite podcast so far; I have only been listening to podcasts for two months. I enjoy history and the best part about the series is that the podcast is given by the man who was actually there and he inserts actual recordings and interviews from the time of the events! Due to him being there during these events the podcast and details are extremely thorough! Phenomenal podcast please keep posting amazing content and series like this!!!
-
POCBGSGreat story tellingI thoroughly enjoyed this series. OBJ is such a great storyteller. The series gave me a glimpse into the unfortunate state of our world in terms of evil (the government) and relative common good (her father). Thank you OBJ for your tenacity and passion in bringing this unfortunate event to light by peeling away the layers of lies and deceit.

-
Annie OhhhhFascinating historyOwen Bennet-Jones does a wonderful job connecting Benazir Bhutto’s career and assassination with multi-faceted Pakistani politics, including their links to Islamist terrorists. The US role in all this is made clear.
-
Suzanne IlgunWell doneFascinating topic. Excellently put together and presented.
-
regionalroadieRiveting contentThe Assassination was a riveting podcast from start to finish. Keep up the great work. Such quality work inspired to subscribe to the BBC’s Real Story. I really look forward to this type of podcast one can binge listen to. Kudos to all for an amazing production.
-
random_nomadFascinating and well-toldA masterpiece looking back at the assassination of Bhutto - excellent insight, and clear on what is established fact, as well as what is theorized... at the end of the 10th episode, I had a bit of a groan that it was over, and I couldn’t get a “next one”.
-
felasfaBrilliant story telling, depth and dramaBenazir Bhutto is a larger than life character. She is charismatic and highly intelligent. But she is intertwined in a power struggle with military menand jihadists and with only conditional American support. Owen Bennet-Jones knew her personally but more importantly has the depth of knowledge and talent to make sense for us of her exile, return home and bloody assassination. We owe him and the brilliant BBC a debt of gratitude.
