This is one of my favorite podcast, definitely my favorite sailing pod but Please stop playing all of the sea shanty song at the end. I liked the music at first but bc it’s the same song and the whole 27min of it I can’t take it anymore. I’m doing things when I’m listening and stopping or fast forwarding is not an option always. Try 20 or 30 seconds.

You are so young to already have acquired the talents and the empathy you have. The ability to know when to be silent and let a guest speak after you have directed them to that point through thoughtful, insightful questioning is a joy to listen to. I especially enjoy your guests who aren’t just accomplished male sailors, but women and hopefully in the future, people who are generally less represented whether they be of color or just a bit out of the the mainstream most of us spend our days in. All of you at 59 North deserve a tip of the hat and my sincere appreciation for what you do and how you’ve chosen to live your lives. This all comes from the perspective of a 71 year old white man who spent many years sailing and cruising in his youth and who now spends a few months a year on a canal cruiser in the northern Netherlands. I have always loved this podcast. I will continue to listen, but the mono tone of Emma’s voice mixed with sometimes a monotone guest like Tania is the perfect recipe for a afternoon snooze. I miss when Andy would do the interviews and his ability to bring out the best information from the guest along with asking difficult questions with a surety. I like Emma, and nothing against her, but try to muster up a little more direction when interviewing.

Andy Schell and his team (every one of them) are so engaging, knowledgeable and enthusiastic on the Art of Seamanship it’s hard not to be seduced. Highly highly recommend listening!

I learned of this Podcast from a Crew Member while in the 2017 OPO Swan Program and has been with me through a freezing cold 2018 winter refit of my boat, SWANDA, in Jamestown, RI to becoming a key reference for boat ownership and my own development as an Offshore Sailor. And is a great interviewer and his guest are interesting and some are iconic. It’s great that he has interviews some people that won’t be around for ever. The wokeness and slamming the “women’s” agenda none stop is definitely his right but gets old. Encourage and promote but remember men and women are different.

I just listened to your July 26th episode. It took over 10 minutes to get to the actual content. You have a lot going for you here. Your audio quality is good. You are interviewing great people. Just don't water it down with irrelevant information, especially at the intro.

Podcast was great before. Andy interviewing all the sailing hotshots was really fun to listen to. The interviews were really good and Andy has a talent for keeping the conversation going in and entertaining direction and keeping interviewees between the buoys if you will. However recently August has started doing a lot of interviews (and much worse sometimes Emma) and it’s just not the same quality. August sounds like a nice guy, a good sailor but his interviews are more boring and at times awkward making for a poor experience. I would suggest new listeners start with the archives..

Great interviews with no punches held. Solid questions and analysis from the host and guest.

I have enjoyed all these podcasts especially the ones related the episodes relate to sailing vs. the interviews as a new sailor. All of your team does a fine a very fine job!! Keep up the great work and may 2022 make up for 2021.

I stopped listening once August started hosting the podcast. The archives are great. Some wonderful interviews.

My favorite sailing related podcast. It covers many aspects of sailing and very useful information. Andy is a great interviewer and so is August. I look forward to hearing a new episode while I am driving or working on my boat. Andy and August are A squared away.

Watched initially on YouTube when August went aboard Uma and interviewed the young couple Kika and Dan while they sat together in Norway. Then, followed you guys - found Andy and the crew for the two boats . August is a calming and super knowledgeable voice for what it means to be a sailor and truly devoted to hearing what others have to share about their own experiences . Love the addition ! More ! more !

I just want to respond to Andy’s request for feedback on the work August has done since coming on board. August is a true delight and a nice contrast to Andy’s style. The two of you clearly work well together and there is a sense of mutual respect. August seems very knowledgeable, projects warmth and sincerity, and clearly loves sailing. His interviewing style is thorough and thoughtful, much like Andy’s. I’m looking forward to more!

This is my current favorite podcast- always fun to hear about ocean adventures, especially during Covid. The recent Kika and Dan episode was fabulous. Andy and August sound like genuinely good people, and a pleasure to listen to. You’ve got fans in LA!

Andy, Thank you so much for this interview with Bill Pinckney. Because of the controversy about who was the first African-American to circumnavigate solo, I had some biases about Capt. Pinckney. However, after this interview, I find him endearing and gracious. I have a new found respect and appreciation for this man. I realize, it doesn’t matter to me any more about “firsts”. He is a gentleman, a scholar and outstanding Seaman. You have outdone yourself in my book Andy, and I want to thank you for opening my eyes and my mind. I am inspired to Jurassic proportions now!! I am new to On the Wind Sailing, but not new to knowing when a collective of people are passionate about what they do and this is one of those times. From the interaction with interviewees to the interest in the people in the world of sailing these guys are passionate. Not to mention the content is useful, unique and insightful. You will enjoy.

This is an incredible podcast for any sailing enthusiast. Andy and Mia are the “real deal” running a business taking folks on real sailing adventures and discussing their thoughts, feelings and adventures. Andy is a tremendous interviewer who understands how to lead a guest with appropriate questions without talking over the answers. I am not a sailor (powerboater) but I love listening to this podcast anyway.

This podcast is an excellent piece of work that offers both inspiration and practical advice for offshore sailors and adventurers of all stripes. Andy and Mia have thrown themselves into making this a very professional production. I’m impressed by the way Andy has polished himself as an interviewer... after hundreds of episodes he has mastered the art. Thanks to the 59 North team for putting this together.

I’m sitting in a hospital bed dealing with kidney stones My daughter shared this podcast wth me. Been listening non stop. Totally forgotten about any kidney stones Thank you guys for an impossibly great diversion for an old armchair sailor!

This is the best podcast I’ve ever heard. It has comical, sad, and even frustrated moments. My favorite episode is the Bob Shepton. Can’t wait for every new episode. I will always listen to this show.

Your spot on statement of not using plastic especially when traveling and enjoying islands that have no place for garbage and all these boat that want to live low maintenance on a boat traveling around and asking for Patreon support but they use plastic and take garbage to the little remote places they visit. These sailors have the opportunity to teach these places how to be responsible with plastic especially when they live by the sea. instead they Fish their oceans, eat their coconuts and dump their sewers yet talk like they care about the heap of garbage in the ocean. Thank you Mia for your comment about going to Island bbq’s and taking your own plate and silverware. Hopefully all the “big” Youtube sailors who are now having babies they don’t use plastic silverware OR disposable diapers which anyone who travels see’s them everywhere . In short I loved your comment about living by that better standard. Your podcast is Great fun and interesting.

Overall enjoyable for anyone interested in this niche topic. I’ve learned a lot! I wish they spent time editing and making it tighter so that episodes were a little less rambling. I think it’s inspiring that they’re living their dreams, authentic life and all that, but it’s also a bit hard to stomach a bunch of affluent white folks sitting around and talking about themselves and all of the fabricated adversity they’ve conquered. Complicated world, I guess!

I have been listening to ON THE WIND with Andy and Mia for over a year now. This podcast is informative and is great for me who is new to sailing. I cant wait to go sailing with 59 North in the future.

I'm an advid listern and have covered all Andy's podcasts over the past 2 years. They are entertaining and have greatly enriched my sailing life. Andy's podcast introduced me to new ideas, history, places, and key people involved in sailing. Every episode is a goldmine for new avenues to explore (and dream). From people to learn about, boat systems to consider, other online (podcasts/websites) to explore, books to read, ideas to consider regarding seamanship, etc! Most of all Andy's podcast has helped me become a much better sailor. He shares a perspective that's made me a more competent and safe. Maybe one day I'll even have the opportunity to sail with him. Andy ... loved the Pete Goss interveiw ... what an inspiring guy. l listened to it while MTB in the Santa Monica Mountains off Sunset Blvd. There was a 30+ knot Santa Ana wind blowing and Pete's words 'the only thing you own is time, so don't waste it' kept me powering along. Not just a great sailing podcast, this is an inspirational guided tour of an industry that not a lot of people know about. Living in Pittsburgh it’s hard to keep a finger on the pulse of the sailing community but Andy’s show keeps me right there. I used to work on sailboats and mega yachts and have been getting the itch to get back into the industry. This show keeps the inspiration alive. Can’t wait to get back on a boat. No matter what type of sailor you are this is "must listen" radio. These Podcasts have made my 2.5 hour commute everyday bearable and have expanded my sailing goals, thinking, library, and play lists!

I swallow up sailing podcasts. This one is not bad. Some of the guests I can’t get enough of, and I’ll follow them from podcast to podcast. For this one the pedantic host can be a bit hard to swallow, but if you can get through a few and get past that some of the episodes are worth a listen. Just fast forward the first five and last ten minutes so you can skip the broker b.s.

I love podcasts and I love sailing, but somehow I never got around to listening to a sailing podcast. Until now. Andy is very knowledgeable and he gets great guests. I’m hooked.
