    Good Christian review
I’ve been a listener for years and this is my ultimate comfort/cozy podcast PS Alyssa is a gem and we don’t deserve her

    NOT Christian
There is nothing about this podcast is Christian. A lot of graphic sexual talk and swearing.

    Huh?
I don’t understand. What even is this podcast? I wanted to hear about Phenomenon by TFK. I think it might’ve been 60 seconds on that topic. Very misleading. Very disappointing.

    Spare us
Alyssa makes the new free eps unlistenable 😭

    I miss Caroline!
I have enjoyed listening to GCF since its first year, but the show totally changed in 2024 when Caroline left and Alyssa and Jeremy came on. Jeremy and Kevin do their best to maintain some semblance of a podcast, but the conversation is derailed literally every 5 minutes because Alyssa wasn’t paying attention or tells an unrelated personal anecdote. The patreon episodes are still fine but the main podcast is really, really hard to listen to with Alyssa as a host. She seems like a fine person as a friend but she is so terrible at podcasting that main feed gcf is pretty unlistenable now.

    Missed potential
I was hoping to hear a good natured show that would help me work through my affection and nostalgia for certain Christian media and feel seen as an atheist former youth group kid. I’ve now listened to about six or seven episodes from throughout the show’s run. The early episodes feature guests who have no affection for the subject matter and the recent episodes come across as unedited incomprehensible Skype calls. Mostly the show just feels mean spirited, over analyzing, giving bad takes, and punching down at artists who were trying to make something cool in good faith. The best example was their “search for the worst Christian song of all time” where they would spend multiple episodes piling on and complaining about some of the most famous and often excellent Christian songs. What a let down.

Wait, I’m not the only one who has Christian trauma?
This show changed my life! I love you, Kevin and Caroline! Thanks for making Christian trauma a real thing.

    Lots of turning things sexual
It’s honestly just really irreverent and sexual. I don’t know if it’s just the older episodes—I came across this podcast via episodes made between 2019-2022. It’s hard to get through an episode when they’re turning songs of hope (and even grief) that are uplifting to hopeless people into sexual jokes. Even the episodes labeled “clean” are sometimes the absolute worst ones regarding talking about “squirting” to songs and making sex playlists. Even if it weren’t for the complete irreverence, there’s so much talking over their guests that it’s like they don’t even want to hear their guests talk. You frequently can’t even catch the whole sentence or thought that someone is trying to say. But honestly, it’s the complete debasing of a hopeful message and turning it disgusting that absolutely turns me away from this podcast. It kind of feels like it’s a podcast for people who secretly hate christianity and just try to disguise that by saying they go neither way. Gave it two stars because some of the guests were cool. I tried to listen to different episodes to give it a chance, but I draw the line at removing goodness from a hopeful message that’s intended to uplift the very people who need it most. This isn’t Christian anything.

Long time listener, first time reviewer
I’ve been listening since ep 1 (was a seamless Gilmore Guys to GCF transfer. Kevin, love your work!) Kevin and Caroline are such gifted hosts. They exude a warmth that feels soooo comforting to listen to. Even if I miss a couple months, I find myself coming back to listen to several episodes in a row during times of stress. I love yall. (Congratulations Caroline!) Oh and my original point in writing this was to say that even though I will miss Caroline lots and look forward to her return whenever she wants, the dynamic between Alyssa and Kevin and the other gentleman is also just delightful. Keep it up!

    Smug
As a former fundie, I'm inclined to appeciate GCF. But they have a weird and ageist fixation on Joe Biden that gives away the game. They seem to hate Biden -- the most progressive president in U.S. history -- for being ... old. And in relently mocking Biden, they more or less make an argument for the brutal authoritarian altenative, Donald Trump, who they only infrequently mention. I desperately want to like GCF, but they've smugged their way into basically arguing for the thing they purport to oppose. It's ... sad and strange and betrays GCF as basically a vanity project making fun of a few songs and movies. Also: I'm sure they'll never mention this review on the pod. Which is equally sad.

Alas, It’s not just about j*rking off
Have been listening for 6 years and have waited all that time for the Facing the Giants episode! Watched this movie at least x2/year at my Christian school when we couldn’t go outside for PE (Oregon rain). Going to hate watch it tonight. Thanks for the inspo!

    Never again
All this podcast is about is listening to long rambling overly long shows full of people swearing, mocking Christians and churchgoing while constantly laughing at their non-funny jokes. Some shows take more than 30 minutes to get to what the topic was supposed to be. Decent, intelligent people will find there’s no there there.

    Thank you 🥹
This podcast has been a lighthearted way for me to make sense of my bizarre childhood. Kevin and Caroline are perfect perfect podcast hosts. PS— I told my parents about Amy Grant hula hooping and they weren’t remotely surprised. “She always does that,” my mom said.

    Stop cussing
It’s a really good podcast but the cussing is really bad. I wish you would stop cussing and using inappropriate words. My mom won’t let me listen because of that.

    Nice!
What can I say… this wholesome podcast is GOOD. It’s Christian, AND it is so fUN! 5 stars.

    Safe Space 💜
I grew up in a very conservative Christian household and was raised under the No Greater Joy method of child rearing. It was all very traumatic and it can sometimes feel very isolating when you finally leave that environment. Having a podcast that is positive and supportive of everyone, no matter where you’re at in your spiritual journey is so special. I would love to hear you guys tackle the Shiny Happy People documentary! It’s really dark but I think it’s essential viewing especially if you were exposed to Bill Gothard’s teachings. Keep up the good work!!

    i <3 this show
this podcast has helped me thru so much and has literally felt like i had friends in some of the hardest parts of me leaving evangelical christianity. ngl the last year has felt like they’re coasting and the episodes aren’t as great as they used to be. but still a fun show.

    Not very Christ like
There is a lot of cussing and it doesn’t seem very Christian at all. More like mockery
  • Joetasmic1999999
Great show, but Too much Taylor
Love the show! A great listen for the deconstructing. However, they spend an ENORMOUS amount of time talking about Taylor Swift. Like, so much time. So, if you’re like me and hate hearing about anything Taylor Swift, be ready to hit that 15 second forward button.

Fun but thoughtful discussions on Christian pop culture and topics of faith. Listening to Kevin and Caroline’s friendship is so wonderful and comforting.

    Hilarious. Holy toast!
I’ve been a listener for about three years but don’t think I’ve commented until now. Love this podcast. Kevin was in rare form on the most recent episode (5/24/23) with Alex Gervasi. So funny. Caroline is also always hilarious and delightful as well. Something I can’t get over is the amount of one star reviews from people who managed to listen to an entire episode before actually figuring what type of show this is. A holy roast to them!
  • Mackenzie123!
    Warning
I thought I was getting a fun, lighthearted Christian podcast on the way to work, but instead, I heard a mockery of Jesus.

    Bad Theology
This podcast is hosted by two sweethearts who were obviously sold a heavy theology of moral therapeutic deism growing up. And boy does it show. I just want to reach out, give them a hug, and take them to a church where Christ crucified for sinners is preached.

    I Guess I Understand…
If you wanna hear people patronize Christians and nitpick/bash all the Christian music you like, or all the Christian stuff you loved growing up, this is the show for you

Great interview w Adam Tinius! Love listening to this show-- I laugh and heal all at once. Thank you. Okay, I love you:) 😉

    This generation's...
Kevin and Caroline are this generation's Regis and Kathie Lee - with much less religious insincerity. I'd put these two on TV with giant mugs 'o coffee.

    For Skeptics and Believers?
The hosts were fine, I enjoyed listening to them when they weren’t explicitly bashing Christianity and all things related to religion whatsoever. It’s just that it’s difficult to start listening to a “discussion of Christian pop culture” when your beliefs are mocked and insulted throughout the conversation. The hosts basically said that Christian bands are dumb and that their songs don’t mean what the artists think they mean, but they make really good music sometimes. Look, I listen to plenty of podcasts with hosts who hate Christianity, and none of them come across as hostile as this show does. I listened to the Meant to Live episode and the first 60% focused on how awful Christianity is. I couldn’t help but to think of the show’s claim to be for skeptics and believers. It would be more accurate to say for those who hate Christianity.

    I have a master’s degree in GCF.
I started episode one of this podcast about 10 months ago and listened to every single episode up until today when I listened to the most recent episode. I laughed, I cried, I made “eww! Yucky!” And “EXCUSE ME?!” faces while driving alone in my car. Long story short I love Caroline, I love Dexter, I love Scampi, I love Kevin, and, now, I worship Gerbert.
  • cachappmania
    Good…..but…
The Contant is great, the host seem to do a wonderful job except for the foul language. I’m trying to remove that from my Christian life and how am I supposed to stop when I hear these people doing it?
  • Zimrahin
    Love you guys
Came to this podcast in a super roundabout way (was listening to an old episode of JJGo where Kevin and Caroline were guests, heard that Jordan had been on their podcast, went to check out Jordan’s eps because I recognized Kevin’s name from when he guested on PUTJ)…was not sure if I’d enjoy it, since I was raised secularly and have always found peace and affirmation in being an atheist, but the hosts are very sweet and accepting and funny, and I feel like I’ve learned a TON listening to this show. A lot of things about conservative American Christian culture mystify and scare me, given the effects it’s had on our political landscape over the last 50ish years, and this show provides a fascinating look into some of that culture that is accessible to outsiders. The show is mostly light-hearted and fun, but i also love when the guests get personal about their own experiences with religion and the occasional dips into more serious topics (I found the Spotlight episode particularly illuminating and heartbreaking, for example). I would love to see more guests on the show who were not raised Christian (especially for topics where a different perspective might be especially useful - there was so much more that I as an almost-lifelong atheist wanted to say about God’s Not Dead!) but with the caveat that I have not listened to all the existing episodes.

    You should listen to it.

    Caveats
Kevin and Caroline are pathologically likeable people. Caroline’s laugh specifically brings me so much joy and Kevin is so endearingly earnest. However, this is an incredibly left leaning podcast, if that’s difficult for you to listen to, I’d skip. They used to be more Christian neutral and at this point are far more disdainful for all things religious. If that’s difficult for you to listen to, I’d skip it.

    Trying too hard
I tried to like this. I really did. I kept on listening & it kept getting worse. The posturing of “being above it all” & superior not only got old, but often the smugness was ill-informed which was an irony lost on them.

For the snarky Christian and/or ex-vangelical wondering where they belong
Listening to this show is one of the highlights of my week. It’s sort of become like church?!? [Updating my review years later because this show continually helps me feel less alone by being the perfect blend of snarky and obviously homeschooled. Gracious!]
  • MadPT17
    Always bring a laugh
I loved this conversation. Hearing about every guest host upbringing in the church is so fun. Loved the light hearted conversations that spark thought and interest.
  • hiiiiiiiiiiiu!
    misleading
bummed that it wasn’t an actual christian podcast.

Great podcast for the believer, nonbeliever and everyone in between
I heard Kevin on the Juice and decided to check out GCF. I was hooked and have binged episodes from 2017-2019 in the past month. It feels like we had similar upbringings and our desire to view religion through a lense of love rather than a lense of damnation would make us friends IRL. Can't wait to get caught up!! 3 more years of content to go....

    Fav podcast ever
GCF has become life changing for me. It's been so helpful to me over the last couple years as I have deconstructed from evangelicalism. I love the way Kevin and Caroline blend humor and thoughtful conversation. I hope this pod lasts forever!
