A daily “ten” minutes for me.
I enjoy Matt’s daily ten-ish minute bible study. He’s thorough and thought provoking….. just don’t be in a hurry to finish a season ;-). I’m not.

Have I earned enough attendance stars yet?
I have loved listening to Matt and hearing his take on what the Bible is getting at and looking at how it fits in the narrative of the time. I have been listening since day one, and although Matt doesn’t know it he’s been teaching me about the Bible though out many stages of life (single, dating, married, and with baby) and both his content and more importantly the Bible are applicable throughout each stage. Most importantly I was promised a pizza party after 2 years of attendance. have we reached that point yet do I have enough attendance stars for that party? I know we reached the half way point, but it has been radio silence since then.

    Worth every minute
I have listened to most of the series on Matthew and I have learned so much about historical context and how the text would have been read originally. I have a lot more confidence when reading Matthew now that I’m getting the intended meaning. This is from someone who has attended Christian churches for 29 years. I love Matt’s perspective and openness to any question or doubt or viewpoint about the Bible. 2 years later edit: Also it’s like the Bible for dummies which is fun but once in a while there are these incredibly formative moments where I have to listen to the episode multiple times. Thanks Matt!

    Lives up to expectations
This podcast is awesome! Funny, deep dive daily Bible. If lives up to the expectations. Matt is a smart and fun to be around companion on the journey through the Bible and it’s well worth it to spend a few minutes with him daily.

Daily dose of Bible, and humor, and history, and awesomeness!
I started out listening to this podcast back when it all began. Back in the Matthew days. Back then, I got behind and couldn’t get caught back up easily…so I abandoned it. Then I would pick it back up with the next season, and then wouldn’t keep up, would abandon it again, and on and on. Now, here we are in 2025 and I’m back with a vengeance!! And guess what the perk of abandoning this podcast for years is? I can BINGE IT ALL whenever I want!! This podcast is a delight to have in my ears in the mornings when I am cleaning and doing all of the household things. I laugh during pretty much every episode, my understanding of biblical geography and history and knowledge in general has grown significantly, and I LOVE having the backstory and the perspective of the original audience. I can’t recommend this podcast highly enough. I binged Galatians and caught up in a matter of days, and now I’m going back to binge Esther. They’re SO good!! Matt has become my “morning chore time friend”. I get lost in the story and it makes doing chores so much more delightful. Thanks for all you do, Matt!! The amount of effort you put into doing this work for us is not taken for granted. If you’re on the fence about listening, I say go for it! You won’t be disappointed.

    Never 10 minutes
I haven’t listened to a single episode that’s 10 minutes or 1 hour long. Sad. Not good. Very fun and informative podcast. 8 of 5 stars.

    Wonderful work Matt!
Matt does the best job of breaking down and contextualising the text out of anyone that I have ever listened to! The ~10 minute episodes are great for everything and enable the Bible to be made more accessible and understandable. Thank you Matt!!

    Sooooo goooood
I needed this podcast so much! Matt does an exceptional job of relating the messages to his listeners. I love his humor and his joy jumps through microphone. Each podcast keeps me curious and enlightened at the same time. Weird.

    Matt’s a talented dude
Enjoyed it at first and have been listening for over a year, but I finally got fed up with with the occasional woke messaging from this guy. Love you Matt, you’re a true man of God, but in todays culture with the constant wokeness being force fed to all of us, I don’t need it infiltrating my spiritual life. With that said, goodbye.

    Superb music by Jeff Foote
The intros and outros of this podcast are chock full of original compositions and inspired covers of pop culture. Each day is a little surprise from Jeff. One day it might be something totally new. The next might be a re-working of some movie soundtrack, a video game theme, a 1970s classic, or whatever comes out of this guy’s inspiration! It’s a perfect addition to anyone’s daily routine. Allow the Jeff’s genius to tickle your ears. You won’t regret it! Oh, also, in between Jeff’s supreme sounds, there’s this guy named Matt that talks about the Bible. He’s cool too.

    I <3 it so much!
Great historical look and also I love Matt’s jokes and stories and I hope he keeps telling the story’s even though he is just trying it out but over all this is a great podcast I would recommend listening if you need a good bible podcast to listen to on the go, while working out or in times when u can’t physically sit down and read the Bible. This podcast has also made me want to read the Bible more than ever and I hope to hear many more episodes :)

    Context is Everything!
As a pastor that always tries to put historical and literary context into my sermons and teachings, I love what Matt is doing here. Context is everything when it comes to reading and interpreting scripture properly and Matt is giving a much needed service to his listeners. Thanks Matt!

    Worth a bijillion.
Matt transports us to the time setting. You feel the events as if you were there. The history Matt shares adds such value to understanding the Scriptures and for many of us, we do not have the time to dig all of it. Matt also works hard at presenting all points from different scholars so that we can make our own informed opinion. I found him a while back and I HAD to go to the beginning and just chase to catch up. Do you have to do that? no. Each episode is full of information and you will get the context and be able to continue. Just start! It is as the opening says… Fast, Fun , and Free. Except that it is not free since Matt obviously searches historical data to help us connect dots where the Bible does not have it. Between history books and the Bible we have a credible set of writing that we can spend time studying. Thank you Matt for raising the bar to amazing Bible Study time.

    A Wonderful Resource

    Amazing content
I just found your channel, I wasn’t even looking for it but somehow it came across in my instagram feed (? I think it was IG) I am absolutely hooked. I have been binging the Galatians series for the last 2 days and wow..just WOW!! The way you deliver your content is like nothing I have ever encountered and it is so so good (that is an absolute understatement). I love the little snippets of real life stories or movie analogies you bring in to help the listener tie it in with the passage, super-duper helpful especially with such ancient text, to be able to picture or imagine something that relates to our life today. I love the history and background information you give of what was happening outside the Bible during the time also super-duper helpful. I can not say enough good things about your content. Thank you ..thank you from the bottom to the top of my heart. God has truly blessed you with an amazing gift and you are so generous to share that gift with us. I definitely will be joining patreon shortly. Matt thank you for all you do to share God’s word with us

    From the Bubble
Thank you Matt for providing this resource. Been listening from the beginning. You have consistently and faithfully put together a commentary that I can easily share with those outside the Christian bubble. It’s inviting and non-threatening and spoken in plain straightforward words that most people can grasp. Please keep up the good work! Context is everything. I appreciate your rabbit trails . How else can we truly understand the original intent of the author? RichP

I encourage my friends to listen to your podcast. As for the you tube endeavors I feel you are being attacked because it is God inspired. God bless and hang in there!

    Excellent podcast summary and explanation!
Excellent product with clever and quirky presentation of the story of the Bible! This is great!

    Great approach
I love Matt’s approach to Bible, holding the text out for what it is and interpreting that in light of that. Really great insights and historical context too. His historical “rabbit trails” are one of the best aspects of the podcast; rather than distracting they actually provide invaluable context that is all too rare for many of us who grew up hearing the same texts in a church environment. I sincerely hope Matt’s approach of blending a faithful reading of biblical text with an honest look at historical and philosophical context catches on among Bible teachers writ large.

    The best
This is the most unbiased Biblical and deep explanation of the text I have ever found. Keep up the great work! I would love to have an ability to have the whole Matthew season available to download to listen to separately from the podcast.

Thank you for the vulnerability and the curiosity
I started listening to TMBH in 2019. I’m the granddaughter of a Lutheran pastor and have always identified as a christian, but that year, just before the pandemic I was cast in the local production of Jesus Christ Superstar. And because I was using YouTube to practice lyrics, it kept recommending Jesus videos to me, including Matt’s videos. I’m grateful for how good humored and insightful Matt is while in digging into the Bible, Christianity, and questions about Faith. I am also honored by the vulnerability Matt displays in his podcast. I lost my 17 year old cousin in car accident 2 weeks ago. Matt’s Matthew episodes about Jesus hearing about the death of his cousin and Matt revealing his own experience of grief have helped in the healing and forgiveness process. It’s good to know I’m not alone. So thank you, TMBH has helped me handle the tension of God being all good and all powerful, and bad things still happening in our world, and hold on to my faith through it all.

From one 80’s Matt to another
Nehemiah episode 17 and 18 are GOLD! If you could have more accurately loaded the story for a Price Is Right, latch key, 80’s kid I’m not sure how you would have done it! Seriously, might be the most relatable guide through the Old Testament I have experienced! I’m a big fan in general but these two episodes were incredibly impactful and I thank you for the work you are doing! I pray this ministry reaches more of our generation and inspires a new generation of Esra level Christ followers!

    Great podcast
One of the best podcasts out there. Matt has a great sense of humor and is able to bring so much history and information to an easily accessible 10-minute format. I have learned so much over the years listening to this pod.

    Simply the best
I have listened to every season of the TMBH and can’t wait each day for a new episode! Matt is amazingly down to earth and wonderfully knowledgeable and charming all at the same time! 10/10 recommend!

I’m amazing at how much depth Matt can go into with only ten minutes, I’ve learned so much since I started listening!

    I love this podcast!
Matt Whitman does a great job of going through a book of the Bible, verse by verse, with tangents into the relevant history, and applications to our modern world.

    Time well-spent, and here’s why
Whether you a Christian wanting to know the Bible better, an atheist interested in learning more, or a hobbyist historian curious about the intersection of religious and non-religious documents, Matt Whitman makes it clear that this podcast is for you. I started listening on a daily basis at the start of the Esther series. This podcast now accompanies my morning coffee and commute to work. It helps me begin the day with a fresh perspective on a familiar story, and I feel like I learned a little something right at the outset of my day. As a Christian myself, I appreciate the historically informed perspective that Matt brings to scripture. When he is speaking from bias, he states it clearly. Most episodes come with a thought-provoking takeaway that makes me want to go back to the source text and read it again. That last part is why I keep listening — this podcast drives me back towards the Bible, and that, to me, is a gift beyond measurable value.

    Deep Dive
After a phenomenal series on the Old Testament book of Nehemiah that set the historical background, Matt jumps into the New Testament book of Galatians (after a brief prep in Acts). Using examples from modern life, Matt gives illustrations that present concepts in the text. These deep dive podcasts help understand the context and history so it is easier to comprehend the book as the original audience would have received it. Matt presents the entire text (not avoiding any controversial sections) with supporting info so we can achieve a personal grasp of the subject. I’ve been following the TMBH from season 1 episode 1 and downloading the daily show is the first item on my morning agenda. I hope you will join us on the journey and benefit as much as I have. Superb
Matt does an excellent job of making a one person podcast feel like a conversation. He adds life and context to the written word that can only be explained by someone who has a deep knowledge of both the history and current understanding of the history. I appreciate and look forward to spending 10 (ish) minutes a day with him figuring things out.

    Clean, fun and enlightening
I’m a huge fan of this gentleman. I am late to the game, just started listening in May 2024 (170 episodes in). It is super fun and I am learning so much. Taking a deep dive into the Bible couldn’t be easier or more entertaining.

    Witty, clever and smart
I enjoy Matt’s approach to helping bring historic context and clarity to the Bible. His style is approachable and fun, yet clear and serious in maters of truth. If you want to understand the Bible without feeling shamed by your differing beliefs, this is the place for you! Join us to learn and laugh as we dive into the most important document ever written…

    Wonderful Context
This podcast changed how I read the Bible in a really good way.

I needed this podcast more than I knew
I’ve been a Christian for most of my life and consumed a lot of Christian-based content in that time - books, movies, documentaries, devotionals, pamphlets and the occasional Christian CD. Despite all that, though, I never really cared for any kind of historical content, whatever the subject was. Matt has opened up history to me in a way that’s been super interesting and made me a better Christian. Seeing how these stories fit into the larger story of the Bible - and world history overall - has been such a joy. Matt does other things than talk about history, but I appreciate this part of the show the most. Thanks, Matt!

    Life changing revelations
Matt is an incredible soul and I am so beyond grateful that he decided to do this podcast. I watched a lot of his content on YouTube, where he visited different church establishments/parishes with such an open mind and heart that once I heard he had a podcast delving into the deep depths of Matthew. I had to listen. I also heard him say it was over 800 episodes and before I started my journey and scrolled all the way back to the first episode, I made myself a promise to enjoy the journey or try to rather than focusing on the fact that it was over 800 episodes 190 something episodes in and it is inspiring content. It really does make you think about things deeper and differently. Thank you Matt God has blessed and is with you.

    My daily church
Recently moved to a new area and struggling to find a new church community, but I found one here. Love the detail, history, and context Matt puts into every sentence of the Bible and although I started listening to this for the history, I’ve found Jesus along the way

    Worth your ten minutes
Breaking down a book of the Bible into approximately ten minute chunks is definitely a way to study that I connect with. And I love Matt’s humility to say “here’s what the different views are, and here’s where I land, but I don’t promise to be right”.
