Please stop with the people giving their opinion/ bad description of the painting in the bginning of the podcast! (I know, ironic that I am giving my opinion but hey...) I think everyone here googles the painting before the episode. I can't fast forward fast enough but sometimes this segment goes on WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too LONG! Also, there is no exploration of how the painting was made or the artist's working methods : oil on canvas, painted from models, ...etc. It's more philosophy than nuts and bolt of how an artist lived and worked. VERY skimpy on the life of the artist (example: Mary Cassatt episode was extremely thin on details about her BUT long on woman being ignored in the art world). Not really whay I am looking for.

I am updating my review - The new content and side roads in art and culture are wonderful. Find this podcast and make it a great antidote to the madness befalling these times. This is STILL the best podcast on the planet. This podcast is the best thing coming into my head while I paint. Her gentle voice, exquisite delivery, cool music choices, and astounding depth of knowledge of the art I have loved all my life is extraordinary. She really does bring the art through the air of a museum I may never see into my studio like an indulgent friend reading to me while I paint. I highly recommend this podcast for creators. About 6 years ago I came across “The Lonely Palette” and I truly valued Tamar Avishai’s thoughtful, eloquent and personable insights on Art History and the cultural meaning of the works featured in each episode. Avishai has brought new meaning to works I already love and introduced me to new works and artists I may have missed in Art History class after pulling all those all-nighters.

I'm revisiting my review as I re-listen my favorite art history podcast, ever. Still feel the same!!! While listening, it's like seeing with your ears! You will experience works of art at a depth previously reserved for those with a fine arts degree. Quite a lot of fun, with wisdom inspired by or gleaned from the artist and works discussed ... the wisdom will sneak up on you at any moment! And what a voice! I could listen to this all day ... and have, many times.

The Lonely Palette is so well produced (the sound editing, the pre-prod research, the background music, the natural feel of the museum visitors that start each podcast, etc etc). More importantly, The Lonely Palette is so very entertaining and educational (two words that hardly go together). But that is the whole point of Ms Avishai … she wants us to feel the excitement of art and art history even if museums can feel aloof and stuffy. Museums are not inaccessible, they are as fun for me as the NFL is for football fans. And The Lonely Palette makes each art topic Ms Avishai wants to tackle as thrilling as seeing a Steph Curry three-point game-winner. 10/10 !

As an international student who struggled a lot in my art history class during college, I wish I found out about this podcast earlier!!! Tamar can go in depth on an art work, an era or an artist without overwhelming me. Her voice is calm, inviting and beautiful. I learnt so much from listening to her channel and felt like I can fall in love with art history too!!(instead of being intimidated by it)

I have been listening to The Lonely Palette off and on for years. It's a well produced show that is thought provoking. I find myself going back to the art several times during the show. I also think Tamar has a terrific voice for a podcast. Her pace is easy to listen to and she is engaging. I also enjoy when people are asked what they think of the art. I sometimes try to see what they see. Keep up the great work Tamar!

Of all the podcasts in the world, this is my favorite! The Lonely Palette podcasts are small gem-like essays about life and art history. Tamar Avishai makes the artwork accessible while also articulating for you the sense of wonder, or puzzlement, that you may be feeling but can’t quite express. You come away smarter, moved, and yet entertained. I have purposely made trips to museums to settle in looking at the Art with the Lonely Palette in my ear buds. While these museum outings are lovely, you can see the Art discussed in links provided in the show notes. Take a break from the news and immerse in Art for about a half an hour with this disarming companion. A great episode to start with his episode 60. Caravaggio’s The Crucifixion of Saint Andrew.

I am by no means an art aficionado. I do enjoy art museums and appreciate the way that art can make me feel. This podcast takes the whole endeavor to the next level for me. Tamar is smart, funny, and deeply reflective. You will be surprised at how much you learn, smile, and breathe deeply!

The Lonely Palette is a great way to examine art that you might not experience in person. A joy to listen to, highly recommend.

The art history podcast that has been missing from my life. So accessible and engaging. My only complaint is I wish each episode were longer, so I could learn more.

The tone, the voice, the context all a most enjoyable way to spend time and listen to information you wouldn’t have known even though you well know the painting. Brings art to a new place. Love how the artwork is first described by several people. I listen while I bike or walk or make the bed or do laundry. Love having my brain engaged.

The show is called Lonely Palette, a play on Lonely Planet, but rather than introducing the richness of an entire world of art, the program is just more praising of the art of white people and only giving a token nod to the art of non whites. It’s already 2023, yet the host still thinks it’s the 19th century. Please do better. The art institute of Chicago has a large collection of Asian and other non white art, which is mostly ignored. This is the most insidious kind of racism, the kind that minimizes and marginalizes the achievements of non whites, while exaggerating the work of whites.

Fantastic pod cast. Love art and look forward to each new episode. Exceptional presentation!

It’s good, simple educational fare, well produced, without bells-and-whistles.

Tamar beautifully crafts the story and context of the moments each piece was created in. Tamar is to art history what Spiro Kostoff was to architecture, and equally as engaging as she paints masterpieces with words.

I have never liked or rated a podcast before. I love art history and so I did a search for podcasts and was surprised to find so many of them. I tried one that rhymes with BartFurious but it devolved into a formulaic offering from a content conglomerate. Another that rhymes with Tart Mystery 101 was more about the narrator and less about the art. The Lonely Pallet is perfect for me. Tamar sounds like an audio guide to a museum. Her voice frames the art she discusses, rather than competes with it. The meter and timber of the content allow time for the mind to see the art and connect emotionally with the artists she discusses. I’ll be sad when I’ve burned through all the episodes.

She makes art accessible while challenging the listener to not simply look, but truly see. Sit with the paintings long enough and they will speak to you. The context and information about the artists is so helpful. Tamar informs while she entertains. I am hugely enjoying her mixing of staid art history with modern pop references. I’m looking forward to her helping me warm up to modern and post- modern art (not a fan). Thank you!

I’m writing this review after listening to one episode— Caravaggio’s Crucifixion of St. Andrew. As an artist who gets emotional easily over works of art, I was so impressed with this episode. I’m sure the rest will be as good if not better. Thank you for creating wonderful content about artwork we love.

As an art advisor and art lover I love the Art Palette because it makes looking and thinking about art easy for everyone to learn about artworks and make them less afraid to visit museums, galleries, art fairs!

Tamar’s insight into art is so interesting and informative, I’ve felt moved by pieces I normally wouldn’t have thought twice about. Like Mark Rothko’s work, which I always dismissively called “the colored squares stuff,” but whose episode made me tear up, it was so beautifully done. Her voice is also lovely, I forget that I’ve never met her. She feels like my friend somehow, and I can’t wait to hear what she comes up with next.

I love listening to The Lonely Palette! Tamar has a wonderful speaking voice and the knowledge is served up so naturally that you don’t realize you’re learning something. Her thoughtful presentations leave me thinking about the show long after I’ve finished listening. I’ve listened to many episodes multiple times.

Years ago I loved visiting museums and the art they contained but didn’t feel that warmth when I encountered art history, This podcast bridges the disconnect and is one of the most enjoyable I have encountered, Calming and refreshing—the opposite of a newscast. To probably misquote the host, Tamal Avishai: “reclaiming art history for the masses, one artwork at a time”!

I love everything about this podcast. From the catchy bystander description open to the perfectly crafted emotional finish, Tamar and the crew of the Lonely Palette have me hooked. While I have found other art history podcasts to lack organization and consistent content (Art History Babes), or to lack depth of meaning (Art Curious), TLP hits home in all the right ways. It reminds me why I kept going to art museums and got interested in art history in the first place: art’s capacity to unite us in our mystery. Thank you for all you do.

This is the kind of stories and reflections about art that I love and always wanted more of. Not only does a podcast about visuals work, but it’s a fascinating and intimate way to invite you to take a closer look at what makes art and what makes it human.

I can’t tell you how hard I searched for a good art history podcast. This is stunningly good, but never came up in an “art history” search on apple podcast. I wonder why not. At at rate, just listened to the Anselm Kiefer episode and it was phenomenal.

Tamar Avishai’s masterful storytelling, enlightening and well-founded connections, quirky sense of humor, and pleasing voice will make the time you spend with her the highlight of your day. Whether you are already an art lover or just a bit curious about museum works, this is more than worth your time.

Tamar is a captivating storyteller unpacking so much if the hidden history, sociology and psychology behind the art we see. Listening to the Lonely Palette is like viewing art through an x-ray decoding the layers beneath it.

If you want to learn more about different artists, and actually feel like you are looking at the artwork, this podcast is enormously entertaining, informative, and clever. The host makes connections I have not thought of or heard of before. It's good for artists, art educators, and anyone else who is curious. I cannot wait to travel again after this pandemic to see some of these works!

The Lonely Palette has become one of my absolute podcast favorites! Tamar Avishai does such a wonderful job of educating about some of my favorite subjects art and social context, while totally humanizing the experience of viewing art. Whether you know something, a lot or nothing at all about the piece and the artist it is pitched to reach everyone. Her storytelling approach is a great way to explain art. She is completely a delight to listen to!

Tamar Avishai does an impeccable job telling the story of works of art. It’s like having “the cool Aunt” taking her time to explain things in a way your parents and teachers don’t.

I love this podcast because it blends art, history, and social dynamics all in a way that is at the same time deep and fun. I ride my recumbent bike over the time it takes to get through three episodes. I could do more episodes...but...I do eventually have to go home!

This fabulous podcast manages to be deeply soothing and intellectually challenging at the same time. I have no art background and wasn’t convinced I would understand or particularly enjoy audio-only explanations of very visual works. I was so wrong! The host is engaging and knowledgeable. She weaves together context and criticism and art theory to create insight and appreciation. I can’t recommend this podcast highly enough!
