Interesting podcast

If you’re criticizing this show, we all know you guys aren’t actually listening. You are skimming the show and waiting to pounce on a topic that disagrees with you. It is fine if you don’t like the show, but don’t share it with people.

I’m only halfway through the “Who’s to Blame” episode and I’m not enjoying it. I’m a fan of banter but this really sounds judgy and critical. So far, it has not been clear or concise on biblical arguments and has basically sounded like a political argument. Lots of straw man arguments. For example - while there are people that use their abuse experience(s) as an excuse to avoid responsibility, which is wrong, abuse does/can potentially make a person more vulnerable to certain types of sin. It’s a context, but an excuse. It feels like the current Christian community narrative - like John MacArthur - mental illness isn’t real, you’re just a baby, get it together. Enough already. Guess what - you can hold people to biblical standards AND have compassion for them. It’s not either/or. The church is not good at this. Becoming a Christian doesn’t automatically make you better in practice, this takes work/sanctification. We still have the flesh, we still have to learn tools to deal with this and, yes, that might include medication or therapy along with biblical instruction. Ugh.

One of my favorite things about this podcast is the way I’m constantly encouraged to take my sin more seriously, to take my walk with the Lord more seriously, and to think more critically about certain things. And at the same time, to laugh and have fun and be full of the joy of the Lord! I have a lot of love and respect for Summer and Joy and also my life has been changed by book club - highly recommend joining if you haven’t yet!!

I really like sheologians and have been listening for over a year now. I actually really enjoy the chatting and friendly banter that happens before the subject comes up, but in recent episodes I’ve noticed that the back and forth just seems plain mean and unrighteously judgy. Maybe it’s just sarcastic humor or dry humor? It’s possible that I’m just being sensitive but I wanted to leave a review sharing my thoughts about it. I truly think of these people as sisters in Christ so i am concerned a little. (No hate)

I’ve tried several times to listen to a complete episode, but so far the struggle is real. The beginning of the show is too long and requires a lot of patience to wait for one full sentence to be formed. Maybe it was just this episode. I don’t have time to wait for some meaningful content. Too much silliness and non essential info. to wade through.

Because Dracula is literally terrible but these ladies are great.

I was very disappointed by lack of critical thought you used in discussing someone as complicated and multifaceted as Elizabeth Wurtzel.

Thankful for podcasts like this one to encourage, edify, convict, etc etc.

I’ve been listening for a couple of years and these ladies have been a tremendous help & encouragement to me! I don’t agree with all of their takes, but their content overall is really good. They are also hilarious. I know some listeners don’t like the chitchat, but I always get a good kick out of their life stories!

I absolutely do listen to a lot of the other episodes, but I LIVE for the storytelling/true crime episodes. They are especially wonderful because instead of providing a voyeuristic look into evil, we are treated to a lively worldview discussion after a well-told tale. Thanks, Summer and Joy!

Summer and Joy have been such a blessing to me through this podcast! I have learned so much and been challenged to become more clear and confident in what I believe and why, as well as the practical outworking of my faith. I love that they cover a wide range from theology and culture to motherhood and marriage. I’m so grateful for the way they address true and necessary topics with confidence and laughter!

Such good “meaty” conversations. Not the bits of feel good a lot of women’s Christian podcast can be. But really deep biblically backed opinions. Just feels like an encouraging conversation with friends

You guys, if you are a woman with a solid Biblical Worldview, comfortable in your own skin, have a good sense of humor and love to hear fellow Christian woman enjoy each others’ company while sharing information, books, stories, history etc with you from a Biblical worldview: WELCOME HOME!! Summer and Joy live up to their names and they are not only solid Christian women, but they are fun, bright, warm, funny, smart, wonderfully sarcastic, and best friends to boot! This show is single-handedly responsible for my giant To Read pile because of all their fantastic book recommendations, and their several Feminism is Poison series are 🔥 🔥🔥 Every week when their new episode drops into my feed, I feel like I just got a present that I cant wait to open 😊 Don’t forget to ask Summer what she uses for her homeschool curriculum and how to join book club! 😉

I’ve been listening for 7 years and Summer and Joy feel like old friends. I love the chatting before each episode, and the thought provoking content. You girls are the best 🫶🏻

I think it is very important to listen to many different perspectives. I have listened to many of their podcast to stay well-rounded. I would describe myself as a Christian conservative, but more importantly than those adjectives I would say I love Jesus. He’s changed my whole life. I will no longer be listening, even to hear another opinion, because this podcast represents as Paul David Tripp puts it, people who “clearly love ideas more than people.” It reeks of arrogance and pride. Honestly, listening to their Feminism as Poison podcast has had the opposite effect on me, and has made me an even stronger egalitarian.

Great minds and awesome topics, but I think the gals need to have an off-air phone call to review and catch up on personal stuff prior to recording… (Depending on the episode) The 15-45min of seemingly unrelated conversation is easy to fast forward to get to the “legit content”, but it still lacks organization and structure.

I used to love this podcast. I would tell everyone I could about it. I even got my husband onto it, but over the last 6 months or so Summer has gotten very condescending in her tone towards everyone and everything on every platform she is on. She lacks humility and it’s so disappointing. The way she speaks to the listeners and thrashes people who send in questions really hurts her testimony. I hadn’t said anything to my husband about it since I started noticing it, but even he brought it up to me the other day how much the podcast has gone downhill lately and not worth listening to. Summer is a little too puffed up with pride right now, and her 1 size fits all weight loss advice is nauseating (especially since she comes off as being the only one who is completely right on how to lose weight regardless if health issues are making it difficult for someone).

Putting the “her” in Summ-her has lost the plot. Used to be ok until they went off the rails on Instagram with ill-advised diet and health advice, censoring opposing discussion and refusing to acknowledge nuance. Laughable yet sad. Kind of exemplifies what others and myself have observed about the podcast lacking humility and tact. It’s hard to grow and love when your head is stuck so far up your own rear end that you refuse to listen and learn.

I have tried to listen to this podcast several times because I line up theologically with these women… However, every time I listen they say so many words without saying anything of substance at all. It is discouraging and difficult to listen to.

If you are a Christian woman, seeking knowledge and sanctification, but you still like fun, then all of your wildest dreams just came true! Sheologians, like hanging out with two totally based friends but completely at your own convenience, its literally almost too good to be true

If the insane 1 star reviews are any indication, this podcast is 100% what Christian women should be listening to. Women who are confident in their positions and love the church enough to plainly state truth without 1,000 disclaimers and caveats. And they do so with joyful and funny hearts. If you don’t like listening to two friends who love the Lord and love being friends chat about life, then the issue lies with you.

I absolutely love listening to this podcast! They are bold in the Word and don’t take back words that might me “offensive” to people. The truth hurts, but they do speak the truth with love. Truth without love isn’t truth and love without truth isn’t love. Everything is lined up with the Bible. Keep it up ladies! The change of the world starts in the home! Alexis A.

I love listening in on Joy and Summer’s chats and benefiting from their preparation and wisdom on various topics. Fun, thought-provoking, and feels like I have friends in the house! A true gift for this young sahm. :)

Updated review: I was a longtime listener but had to stop. I can no longer look past the blatant pride that exudes from Summer. There are plenty of issues that are a matter of Christian liberty, however, Summer approaches all of these topics from the perspective that she is right, full stop. Joy has more tact. Additionally, the number of times you will hear “James White” or “James White’s daughter” is nauseating. We get it, Summer. Finally, a podcast for women that doesn’t rely on feelings and experience to dictate truth. If you’re a Christian woman who rolls her eyes at the standard “female” podcast archetype—this one’s for you!

Summer and Joy... they like to laugh ! I enjoy their banter and trust their theological biblical worldview. They have a heart for the gospel, And it radiates through all they say. Thank you for being wise beyond your years!

👎👎👎👎👎👎I tried to give this podcast a chance but it’s horrible. Everything is a sin. And then what’s a sin for you is not a sin for me. Like, What? They also talk so so so slow. And awkwardly giggle at uncomfortable topics. It’s quite a boring podcast as well. Very disappointing as I love Apologia radio. 👎👎👎👎👎👎

Get ready for truth bombs that EVERYONE should be hearing! Ok, yeah, it takes a bit to get through the first few warm-up minutes but it never bothers me because it’s a wonderful example of how women should be interacting, laughing, and sharing. I can’t stand how sensitive and triggered our gender (yes I’m a biological, maybe not emotional, God-fearing, wonderfully made woman) is to always look for conceit or lack of humility or meekness in other women. We are called to boldly proclaim the Word. They are not mild or lukewarm because they want you to know what they have uncovered. They don’t tiptoe and I only respect that. I’m an accountant - I think in black and white, there is no operating in the grey. Are you offended that you may not have all the answers and I know how to do your taxes and you don’t? A bit of arrogance is appropriate when you know you have the right answer. If it hurts to hear truth, pray over your heart posture to receive it then be empowered to pay it forward! Toughen up ladies - we got this! Get angry at what the world and sin has turned us in to. We have a generation to raise and influence! Keep it up Summer and Joy!

This is a great episode. “You don’t know what you don’t know.” As an unmarried over 50, it is easy to let my flesh or the enemy beat me to death over not marrying and having children. God is sovereign over all things. If you are Christ’s and you are as I am, rejoice in the Lord. Enjoy the families that you get adopted into via you local church. We are born again into the body’ and family of Christ enjoy that family. Isaiah 54

Edit: I’m loving the content of conversation and I do believe the ladies provide their takes from a Biblically-sound worldview. However, I’m disappointed in Summer’s attitude recently. She called a listener’s question “stupid” and I found this mean-spirited at best. Imagine writing in to a podcast you respect with a genuine question about faith application, and the host says your question is stupid and we should be talking about principles first. There are kinder, more Godly ways of addressing a question that you think is silly and I was sad that Summer had this attitude about it. She could also show more humility! A previous reviewer stated that “we” would be a better word choice than “you” when discussing life’s struggles. Y’all never point out when you personally struggle with any of these topics, and it does come off as judgmental toward listeners. I listen with an open hand and have to remind myself that even if you’re not openly telling us, surely you’re struggling, too.

Maybe the twenty plus minutes of small talk is enjoyable if you are a long time listener and have some sort of pseudo relationship with the hosts and their families or if you are a stay at home mom desperate to hear some sort of conversation not about playdoh or Thomas the Train, but I find it really boring and pointless. I don’t have any major complaints about what’s “wrong” with the podcast it’s more that there’s just nothing good about it. I just don’t feel like I’m hearing anything new, different, enlightening, or even entertaining. To me this podcast is comparable with one of the less entertaining conversations I’ve had while watching my kids at the park. Nothing super terrible just completely meh.

Love this podcast. Love their chill-ness. Love their easy-going-ness. Love their friendship and how they just get each other. Love their rich theology and love of the Lord. By the Lord through this podcast, the Lord convicted me to start having kids and now my husband and I have a sweet one year old. Praying for many more, Lord willing. Sincerely, a headcoverer 🤪😁

…Are you guys OK? I had to sit through 15m (50% of this episode) to even START THE CASE. Not listening again, waste of time

I have tried multiple times to like this podcast. I have many others, that discuss similar things, that I love. I can’t get past the vapid and shallow banter. And for whatever reason, there is a very irritating difference between their speech when they “banter” and when they actually get to the topic of discussion. Don’t recommend.

I have been a listener for a year or so now. I really appreciate what Summer and Joy bring to the podcast, but my one hang up- especially lately- is a brazen lack of humility. No meekness, humbleness in their delivery- two attributes that Jesus himself calls blessed in the Bible. I know they are confident in what they are saying (aren’t most podcasters? ;) ) but 1.) they aren’t always right (a lot of times aren’t) and 2.) they are not open to the fact that they may not know everything about any given topic. I think to show more of a willingness to not know it all would do them wonders for their listeners.

I have been listening for 2-3 years (?) and can see where the Lord has been convicting my heart over time through listening to these ladies. Love the discussion on current hot topics. The seemingly random selection of discussion of common sins also seems to coincide with struggles in my heart at the time I listen. Also got some hot sourdough bread tips from these gals. Keep it up Summer and Joy!

Refreshing to hear cultural issues being placed against the Straight Edge (scripture). I enjoy their chit chat and fun, lighthearted intros. The ladies are witty, engaging and always hold their topics up against God’s word.

The first episode I listened to confused me with all the “small talk”- after getting familiar with the format I found myself laughing out loud or wincing with conviction. My two year old showed me how much I had been listening to the podcast when she came in the kitchen, put her little fist in the air and roared with the “shheeeeeoooooolllllogiiiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhnnnnnzzzzzzuuuuhhh!” part of the intro 😍 These women don’t Molly coddle or justify sinful behavior. Thanks joy and summer. I appreciate too in the latest episode that reminder that you’re talking to me, not giving me ammo against someone else. I needed that. Praise God for you two

I like the discussions but there is a theme of saying what they think without caring who they offend. I just can’t get behind that, and I would even say that I agree with much (certainly not all, but much) of what is said. Proverbs 3:3 says “Do not let kindness and truth leave you. Bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart”. The two cannot be separated. Please have reverence for this large platform and think harder about words you choose to speak. Update: I’m finding more and more conversations which are just not edifying. Quick example from this last episode I listened to: Saying “Is there a crystal for the gay?” and then even doubling down on it by telling your audience that your pastor would think that’s hilarious. I mean really… come on, guys.

This is a great show. Don’t be a grump and just listen to it.

Coming out of charismatic/prosperity gospel I was so happy to find normal Christian ladies who just want to live out Gods word and do it faithfully. Great discussions, thought provoking, and encouraging.

I really wanted to like this show as a female theologian who enjoys learning about all different facets of the Christian faith. My issue with it isn’t that I disagree (though I do on many things); my issue is that there are a lot of Biblical interpretations and opinions presented as fact. There are a lot of unbiblical opinions presented as fact, (“most men look for the men they can beat up when they enter the room” is not accurate, nor would that be considered Christ-like, so why mention it to prove complementarianism?) as well. There is also a lot of insulting other denominations and viewpoints and putting other Christian women down. I love “Cultish,” and that’s where I heard of these ladies, but this definitely ain’t that. This makes female seminarians out to be catty and cliquish and elitist. I wanted something to present multiple viewpoints to new Christian women, including reformed and renewed, but this isn’t a good example for young Christian women trying to figure out what they believe. Why can’t we tell our beliefs without putting each other down?

But have to fast forward about 15 min to get to the meat.

I first ‘met’ Joy by listening to Apologia Radio. I really enjoyed her wise, thoughtful input that she added to the show but never listened to sheologians because to be honest I have found that solid Biblical podcasts hosted by women are harder to find than those hosted by men. I am glad I started listening to you ladies- you have a Biblical worldview that is increasing declining in Christian circles and I live that you are not flighty, extra emotional women. You love your husbands and families. Keep teaching biblical truths and striving to have the mind of Christ!

I LOVE THIS PODCASTS this is the best Podcast ever keep making them!!

I’ve been a sheologians listener for 3 years now and enjoy the conversations between Joy & Summer. This is just two women having meaningful and sometimes hilarious conversations about life and hard topics that we as Christians must address. I’ve seen so many reviews hating on the women for not making the podcast comfortable for a wide audience, but I find that that is the whole point. It’s not a soft feel good podcast, it is filled with thoughts based in Biblical truths. I would recommend and do to all my friends. “Peace if possible. Truth at all costs.” -Martin Luther.

I enjoy most of the topics of these episodes, but I absolutely cannot sit through 20 minutes of conversation about their latest Costco run. I also find them closed-minded, judgmental, and lacking humility. Apart from that, I do appreciate their attempts to bring scripture into these conversations.

Listening to this podcast, after finally getting through the 20 minute explanation of what a crossword puzzle is… was like being in a circle of conversation led by snarky judgmental church women who scrutinize and mock the reasonable views of other women without a rational thought of their own. Scripture was alluded to, but not ever quoted. This author was belittled with harsh sarcasm and then lightly complimented in a high pitched voice as if no real admiration was behind the compliment. I don’t understand how such uninformed women can run a podcast confidently. The first missionary Jesus chose was an adulterous Samaritan woman. And I, a full time missionary, have never felt such discrimination as a “working mom” than I do in the church. We must not be reading the same Book? One would think this would be the place for such discussion. But perhaps such depths cannot be reached here. I pray a better world awaits my daughters. That’s enough heresy for one day.
