    New to the pocast
I’ve listened to all the climbing podcasts since the Chris Kalous Off belay days. Just tunning into this one with the Will Stanhope interview. I’ll listen to others to give it a chance but the hosts interview style is hard to get through. Not a fluid conversation. Pointed questions bouncing from subject to subject. Sounds like a high school project or a person interviewing a movie star. I imagine he’s sitting down with a notepad reading question to question.

    Always good, exceptional recently!
Ridge of madness, was maybe the best climbing related podcast episode I’ve ever listened to! Love the story and all the many connections. A tragic story, no doubt, but masterfully told!

    Easily my favorite climbing pod
Across the board excellent mountain climbing podcast. Great guests focused on alpine climbing in North American wildernesses. Likable host w/ good podcast voice and general après campfire vibes (including his original music). Already really liked the podcast… then had a season sidelining injury followed by the birth of my first child. Firn Line has helped me live vicariously in the alpine. Thanks Evan!

Real excited for the new season ahead, Evan really has a talent for crafting a well sounding and engaging podcast. Keep doing what you are doing! Hopefully one day I will make it out to experience some of the unique landscapes Alaska has to offer.

    The best climbing podcast!
This more than a podcast about climbing. It’s about relationships, life, climbing and everything in between. Awesome interviews and stories intermixed with great music, this podcast touches at a level unlike others.

    Well done!
This podcast has brought me many hours of joy. I love the way Evan mixes music with the interviews. The whole podcast seems well thought out and the way Evan asks questions really helps people open up and share the truth about their lives. I must say that this is my favorite podcast and I listen to one of the programs every day. It will be sad when I finish the series. Susan Little

    Beautiful podcast
As a woman living in Chicago who has never been climbing I love this podcast in so many ways. Evan”s gift for music and storytelling are unparalleled. This has been my favorite podcast for the last few years. I am sad he has decided to stop but happy for him and whatever new endeavor he has coming up. I will now finally go and download some of his music to keep with me.

    Unsure of point sometimes
I have been following the Firn Line since it’s inception. I used to listen in for stories of mountain adventures and stories from the athletes involved. Recently, I have been left wondering what the point of many of these podcasts are. Evan seems to be booking no-name climbers (which is great) but the stories of these athletes is, most of the time, boring, dull and pointless. I am left wanting much more. Several recent climbers he has had share very mediocre stories of accomplishments that are quite achievable by the average climber. I by no means intend to thwart these experiences, but do question the point of having these people on the podcast. Around the campfire is one thing, but this is a professional podcast. I lose interest and wonder why I’M not on the Firn Line, lol. It’s all good, just wanted to express my concern for a beloved podcast. Is there an issue getting people to interview? I mean the last guy went on for an hour talking about climbing around Boulder, doing Denali, and a Yosemite big wall..... why am I listening to this person? I do like to listen to everyones story, but I put on podcasts to say, “wow!” Not, “why?” I am not getting anything from these anymore.

    Unbelievably well done
Podcast for climbers by an individual who truly cares about his passion.

    Well rounded & full value.
The Firnline does an awesome job of exploring a variety of perspectives related to climbing, adventure & creativity. These are discussions that traverse from interesting adventure trip stories to deeper life experiences, all from a guy with a lot of both. Evans guests include some big names you’ve heard of and some you haven’t. It’s produced well & packaged with solid original music. Keep up the good work!

    Great Listen
I am not very active in the world of climbing, in face my climbing experience in limited to a couple courses in high school. But even saying that, I love listening to Evan and his guests. I love listening to the stories and adventures of people making their way through the mountains and the world.

    The mountains we choose
Our days and the mountains we explore are numbered. So too the hours we can fill listening to those who fill podcasts. Evan's casts are as soft, beautiful and memorably grand as an Alaskan peak emerging through the shoreline mist. Time well spent. Thanks, Evan.

    Best Mountain Escape
The Firm Line brings a mix of peace, adrenaline, and awe through amazing, yet understated, interviews of fascinating mountaineers. Evan Phillips is an accomplished alpinist, but his style is humble and honoring. This combination may be a key to getting incredible interviews. At 55, and now living in New Jersey, I can mentally escape to the mountains for an immersed hour-long interview on The Firn Line. The stories have also inspired me to train to finish climbing the Adirondack 46ers in northern New York, an objective I started in 1986. There’s nothing like listening to a Firn Line episode while getting my gear together to head to the mountains where I also find my purest peace. Thank you Evan! With gratitude and honor, John Nolan

    Full value
Can’t get enough of this fantastic podcast. Evan’s interviews get at the core of the adventurer’s spirit, and their stories illuminate all the possibilities that exist for those looking to expand their knowledge of Alaska, mountaineering/alpinism, skiing, and climbing. Thoughtful questions bring out the best in the interviewees, who never fail to lay themselves bare for the listener. Some deep life lessons in here, and a lot of adventure stories and beta on the mountains and the world. Get after it and quick!

    Awesome podcast for aspiring alpinists
This is one of the best, if not the best, podcasts for mountain climbing enthusiasts. Evan is a great, thoughtful interviewer who assembles a top notch interview lineup. Plus you get his great music throughout the episodes.

I'm an avid podcast listener, and The Firn Line is absolutely top-notch, especially in such a niche topic.

    Depth and feeling
Great podcast! Evan is clearly a climber who loves the mountains and understands the passions of his guests. He does such a great job of drawing out the stories and experiences that entertain as well as help us understand “the why” behind people pushing it in the mountains. Keep up the great work!

So much more than just climbing interviews
I look forward to each new episode of this podcast. The stories are always so much more than just interviews about the routes that have been climbed. Evan really gets climbers to open up about personal stories, too. It’s inspiring hearing about the accomplishments of the climbers and the hardships they’ve overcome.

    Best podcast on the planet
Not only the best podcast on this blue earth about mountain climbing, but the best podcast. Period. It’s about mountain climbing. But it’s also about the inexorable things that make us human.

    Great story telling
I couldn't be any further from Alaska. I call South Florida home. Warm, flat and the only ice is in my cooler keeping my beer cold. I share a love of the outdoors fishing, hiking and camping all over Florida. These podcasts, the guests and Evan make you feel as if you were sitting on the edge of the Talkeetna Glacier speaking with an old friend. The passion in their stories, their love of the Alaskan Range is felt in every spoken word. You don’t have to be an alpinist or Alaskan to get a sense of the adventure every guest shares. The stories draw you in. Thanks for a riveting podcast, amazing guests and great music.

A taste of the mountains from my cubicle
I found this podcast thanks to an Outside magazine article. Now I’m hooked and look forward to listening to episodes at work. Listening to stories of friendship and adventure are a needed reminder that I work so I can get outdoors and have my own adventure stories to tell.
  • CurbStompObama
    Thank you!
Complacency is easy when you don’t live near the mountains. This podcast reminds me of the training, dedication, and commitment it takes to be able to go competently into the depth of the wild places. I’ve done super limited mountaineering, mostly rock climbing, but listening to the amazing stories on his podcast adds fuel to my once big aspirations. Thanks Evan so much!

A viod in the Mountain community filled!
First off, I have to apologize to Evan for not writing a review sooner as this podcast is well worth it! A listener since episode 1, The Firn Line is nothing short of spectacular! Evan has managed to fill a niche that was missing in the world of podcasting and has done so with style. Each podcast is captivating, inspiring and the tipping point is how well The Firn Line is produced. His songs add a personal touch unlike any podcast out there. Thanks for giving me somthing to listen to on long drives to meet clients for a day of guiding or even better, on that long, HWY 395 scenic byway! Keep up the good work!

    Such a good podcast
I always enjoy this podcast. Evan Phillips does a great job of interviewing and digs into the reasons why we climb and the relationships that we build through climbing and outdoor adventures. It has a local feel which is great to get to experience as someone who grew up in Alaska and holds a lot of sentimental value for the Chugach mountains and Alaska in general. Evan's music is artfully interwoven into the conversations that gives time for reflection on important points in a conversation. His music on its own is wonderful and after being introduced to it on the podcast, I now listen to it all the time. Great work Evan and thanks for the amazing podcast.

    To the mountains!
Great podcast. The stories Evan gets in his interviews are inspiration to get outside. We live the good life in Alaska surrounded by endless wilderness and characters.
