    No research
Could barely make it through the first ep on “The English Game”. It’s like these guys do ZERO research before doing the show. They get facts wrong, and really bungle cultural/historical details. The mispronunciations are cringeworthy.

    Fun, easy listening
Light-hearted companion piece for shows that can be a bit stuffy. No, they’re not historians (a common complaint here). There are a million other resources for fact-checking episodes of The Crown. That’s not why I listen.

    Not great.
They are constantly getting things wrong. (fictional and factual) The Downton episodes were bearable… but holy cow when they start on The Crown …their lack of knowledge of the shows and basics of the British Monarchy and peerage is cringe. FYI Highclere Castle would never be referred to as the manor lol

    Easy and fun listening
Found this looking for all the Gilded Age podcasts and realized that the Lords like a lot of the same shows I do. Having a blast listening to their take on my favorite historical dramas.

    Enjoying it so far!
2024 just started and I’m watching D.A. For the first time. I wanted a recap podcast to help my ADHD brain keep track of the storyline & characters. I downloaded 6 podcasts this was the only one that started at the very beginning. So far, I’m enjoying it though it’s lighthearted and easy to follow. The audio isn’t great in the first three episodes. By the 4th, they plug their mic incorrectly and it gets better, so hang in there!

    Not bad, could be better
I love recap podcasts and I love The Gilded Age, but this podcast isn’t as great as it could be. A little more humor, and little more research would make it better.

    Laugh out loud!
These guys take a serious, soapy series (which I adore, by the way!) and respectfully poke fun, all the while giving us a plot summary, character analysis and a great reminder of all the things we love about the Crawley! UPDATE - Dec 2022 I started listening with Downton, and continued on and off depending on the shows they reviewed. In this week’s pod, they briefly mentioned Only Murders In The Building - please, please review this show! I need a reason to re-watch with these guys!! UPDATE - Aug 2023 I realize that podcasting is a side gig/passion for our hosts, so they don’t always have the time to watch some of the series in real time. How I wish they had reviewed Belgravia when it first aired! I watched that show live, in real time and thought it was just meh, too long, soapy (not in a good way). I don’t think I have it in me to rewatch (and then listen to 6 hours of the pod after the fact) just so I can listen to Dave and Cory’s take on the series. Would love to know if they agree with me, not Julian Fellowes, best by a long shot.

    Not awesome
I find there’s a lot of things they get wrong. Names are mispronounced and facts are off: Harriet Walter did not play Shrimpie’s wife, she was Lady Shackleton. Robert is never Robert Grantham. Bellasis is BELL-a-sis, not Bell-AA-sis. To name a few.

    My Go To Podcast
As a die-hard Downton Abbey, The Crown, and Poldark fan, I am always so happy to listen to Corey and Dave break down each episode, provide their impressions and fun rankings at the end. Their banter is so funny at times that I laugh out loud. They are also serious when it counts, which evidences their fandom. Their dedication to the subject matter and, even more so, to their listeners is evident in every discussion. They always give me the impression that we are just hanging out talking about the shows in an informal setting complete with jokes, debate, and just having fun being fans! Their long friendship is also evident in the easy way they talk, which definitely adds to their appeal. They are also wonderful at keeping our fan community lively online.

    Meh
I mean no disrespect, you guys are doing your thing and I appreciate that but I listened to one episode and as big fan of Downton … it was just boring. Good luck though

    Highly Entertaining!
I just discovered this podcast a couple of weeks ago, and wow! I found it when I searched for The Gilded Age podcasts, but their back catalogue is really fun!

    Aren’t we the lucky ones
Covering everything royal, Downton and beyond, with a dash of smart and sass. I wouldn’t miss an episode. You guys are the best. Thanks so much for doing this!

    Feels like Home
Found these guys by accident and now for at least three years, I can’t imagine them not in my ears (and heart!). Casual, very funny breakdowns of all things Masterpiece with “Downton Abbey” always taking top bill. Recently the boys are breaking down “Poldark” and I’m enjoying their enthusiasm immensely. Corey and Dave never promise to be who they’re not. The approach of learning as they watch, allows the fans to enjoy an unpredictable experience that has wonderful comedic advantages. Every week, it feels like coming home❤️
  • Lisaa F
Are you awake while you’re watching Poldark?
Just horrible! I listened to 2 episodes and it’s like hearing a synopsis from someone who didn’t watch the show. You are both so confused about character names, relationships, events, work, location—everything! Story revolves around the waning MINES and MINE OWNERS of CORNWALL-not WALES, as the decline was due to the more accessible ore found in Wales. Do your homework before you submit your book report. Jeesh!

    What Im thinking while watching
Im just giggling like a little kid listening to their summaries of downtown, and the comparisons to sports and other things its just great lol.

    Making Period Dramas Less Stuffy
The Lords of Grantham have been a mainstay in my feed since I found them before the Downton movie came out. They're casual and funny and have a unique format when breaking down shows like The Crown and Downton Abbey. Who would've thought the best Downton podcast would do a pro wrestling themed episode every few months? Not me!
  • cmcnair88
    A royal treasure
Energized and lively discussions of Downton Abbey and The Crown—these guys are a fun hang that don’t overstay their welcome.
  • autumn-lights
    Great chemistry, lots of laughs
Honestly, I'd listen to these guys talk about anything - the fact that it's about Downton (and now The Crown) is just gravy!

Downton? YES - Crown? RUN AWAY
UPDATED REVIEW FOR THE CROWN: I loved these guy’s coverage of Downton; as noted in my previous review below. In fact I go back and listen to them still for laughs. Therefore, I was so pumped when they decided to do a watch through of The Crown. More entertaining weekly content! However, I could NOT have been more wrong. The overarching issue with these episodes is the complete willful ignorance and poor attitudes. It really made it unlistenable to me. One of the hosts is extremely bitter sounding about “having” doing this. He repeats almost weekly how he feels trapped in a boring school lesson and would much rather be covering Downton over The Crown. The same host also has a mantra of “we’re American” as if that is an excuse not to know even the most basic facts of modern British history. I think he means to sound quippy, but it comes off as petulant and ignorant. The people who are seeking your podcast out are probably already fans of The Crown - they aren’t coming to you to decide if they should watch or not. So then, why consistently crap on a show because it’s a different genre than Downton? It’s negative and makes the podcast distasteful. Also, please do some homework before recording. I understand you are treating it as a fictional show with characters rather than historical drama, but 99% of this show IS HISTORICAL. Getting names, places and titles wrong on fictional Downton is one thing, but if you’re going to attempt to produce quality content to put out for people who are already fans of The Crown then be professional and get the VERY SIMPLE facts straight. Stuttering around for a whole 3-4 minutes about who is next in succession after Elizabeth is unacceptable. This level of quality makes it laughable that they ask for support on patreon after 30+ minutes of essentially giving half thought through opinions on a show that they don’t even fully understand the context of. No thank you, I’ll keep my money. I hope they stop this coverage after Season 1 and are able to cover something that they enjoy more - then perhaps the content will return to being enjoyable. ———————————————- These two guys give an good overview and then quick, funny analysis of the plot and characters. They are not perfectly historically accurate, but part of the charm of the cast is that it’s two modern American dudes diving into early 20th century Britain’s high society. I personally enjoy their “power rankings”. Part of the humor is their constant pop culture references. I would pay good money to hear them do a podcast on Game of Thrones or Star Wars. Only critique: one of the guys constantly says “yeah, yeah, yeah” AT LEAST 10-15 times per 35 minute episode. It is like nails on a chalkboard. Edit it out or find a different filler guys! Otherwise, definitely recommend!

Entertaining way to digest whilst bingeing
Grew up with Dave and Corey, just getting into the show now. The pod is a great way to recap each episode to ensure you remember and analyze it all, which is otherwise tricky to do when binge-watching. Love their format, with the recap and analysis, followed by three up, three down power rankings. The hosts often have diverging views, which keeps things interesting and puts their idiosyncrasies on display in an entertaining way. Looking forward to watching The Crown with them when I finish Downton, but I hope Downton never ends.

English dramas reviewed by the best American men
These gentlemen host the perfect pick-me-up every week. They have the perfect amount of humor, knowledge, and charisma that makes each episode charming and entertaining. They did a fantastic job covering Downton Abbey with their weekly episode reviews, character ratings, and showdowns that made it even more entertaining catching up on the show prior to the movie. And now they’re moving on to The Crown! Another great show that I’m sure they will love. I’ve been a long time listener (on another platform that doesn’t allow reviews). I HIGHLY recommend giving them a listen. You won’t regret it!

    Knowledgeable Downton Podcast
Great Downton podcast, these gentleman offer a recap of each episode as well as tidbits of knowledge along the way. Wonderful stories usually accompany each. Humorous as well, one host went to England to visit Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey is filmed. His story of getting stuck in the mud had me laughing out loud at work, hilarious. I’ve tried other Downton podcasts but this is by far my favorite! I look forward to the other shows and films they will cover now that Downton series is complete.

    “Yeah. Yeah yeah.” <3
Rewatched Downton Abbey this summer to prep for the movie, and since my brain didn’t want to think about anything besides Downton when I wasn’t watching it, I found this to listen to during my very boring summer job!! And let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. Laughed out loud multiple times in a silent room, and all in all just super enjoyed listening to this lighthearted recap and review of one of my favorite shows. Makes me wish I could erase all my Downton memories and watch/listen all over again!

    Best Downton podcast!
I started watching Downton Abbey in preparation for the movie after many friends recommending it. Not only was I hooked with this amazing show (and dragged my mom with me) but then I discovered this podcast and not only are these guys hilarious but they review the show in a way that you can tell they also get invested in these characters and make you see things in different ways. Thanks for the journey guys! Claudia from Miami!

    Molesley for the win
Love it. As a 30 year old American man, it’s great to experience the show with a couple of dudes who also don’t fit the target demographic. Every episode has me laughing out loud. I’m a Downton Daddy for life.

    Patmore Unchained
If you listen to the first 2 episodes and are annoyed with the sound quality, stick it out because that issue gets resolved right away. It’s so worth it. Some of the commentary is golden (i.e. this reviews title), and will have you literally laughing out loud. This is basically a chill podcast, with 2 dudes that love Downtown. What more is there to say?
  • BangtanGirlScout
    Really enjoying the show!
Big Downton fan who unfortunately doesn’t know any other watchers in real life. It’s fun to listen to these two guys talk about the episodes as I feel like it’s the kind of conversations I would have with friends. Love the rankings they do each episode and the season summaries. Can’t wait to hear their take on the movie when it comes out!

    Casual and funny
I've laughed out loud several times listening to this, and at the same time felt the need to go back and watch an episode or check something I missed in Downton Abbey. These aren't historians or nitpickers about detail-- they're just normal people who enjoy the show and like to talk about the characters. And I never get sick of their Bates or Carlisle impressions.
  • 19372639
Mildly entertaining - ignores historical context
I couldn’t get into this pod, I listen to the first two episodes. Hosts ignore the norms of the time and of the position of each character (yes, Mary hooking up with a random guy before she is married would have been a big deal, 2018 norms don’t apply). Titles are often used incorrectly. Basically it’s a surface level chat (wouldn’t even call it an analysis as they bring nothing new to the table) of each episode.
  • onceloyal
    Pretty straight forward...
If you like Downton Abbey, you will like this podcast.

    Absolutely recommend
There guys are hilarious, had me hooked from episode #1. An irreverent love letter to a great series.
  • Cheviot
    These guys have it!
Ever get tired over the insanely gushing, personality driven fancasts out there? Me too. That's not these guys. They take apart each episode of the show, talk about the good and bad and provide a great modern perspective on Downton Abbey. While they're happy to say what was the best in an episode, they don't shy away from saying what was bad. That's a huge plus in my book.
