tiny_pineapplesSkolarshipHated this podcast until they discussed a real skolar, Jordan B. Peterson. This is the kind of stuff on the Orange Catholic Bible I was looking for. Karl Jung FTW.
-
geli trippingInformation packedWonderful to have this back after a lengthy hiatus. Expect a scholarly NT seminar driven by critically examined classic papers. The two hosts are genial yet there is not a gram of fluff here. Stay a while and listen.
-
JaycattAn intriguing tour of New Testament scholarshipThese two graduate students review key articles and books about the New Testament. They evaluate the arguments and provide context from other works in the field. They talk fast! And they assume a decent familiarity with the Bible and modern Bible scholarship, so this might not be the ideal introduction to these topics. But if you’ve read a few Bart Ehrman books, this makes sense as a next step to get some variety and depth.
-
dandycornsExcellentInformative. Helps give academic theological info in a way we can get it.
-
Amy Marie BWorth a listenIf you are into the NT and want to get a good explanation of important NT scholarship give this a listen
-
Ash_DavVery enlighteningFor the layperson who generally doesn’t have the chance to read — or even know about — these works, this podcast provides an amazing education
-
Btd0jaGreat Educational ResourceI took my first college class on scripture as literature last semester, and this podcast was invaluable as a supplementary source for many of the things we learned about the Mew Testament. Can’t wait for more episodes; great work Ian and Laura!
-
RaccoonEyes24Love this podcastI absolutely love this podcast. It's the perfect length and the hosts are great at sharing and clarifying the arguments in the articles they discuss.
-
Affirming the virgin birthThe fear of LauraAmazing rendition. To tears.
-
thechris38Has been very informativeThis has been a great podcast, and I look forward to new episodes. They cover a range of scholarly articles, even if they don’t agree with the points the authors are making. It seems to be a fair balance of scholarship without pushing a particular set of views or beliefs, which is great for learning.
-
JCE_BryantNT Review is a five star podcastYour podcast is paradise for NT geeks, like myself! You two help scale back some of the gate keeping that occurs in academia. One suggestion: could you possibly do an episode on some of Dale Allison’s scholarship? Keep those excellent episodes coming!
-
K_RhineSuggestionYou each need to do an episode on your dissertations, once completed. Love the podcasts.
-
hdrvjvsjbThorough, Attentive, and CarefulIt’s very nice to hear thorough, attentive, and careful discussion about NT scholarship that I don’t have time to investigate. This is a really great podcast!

Seraphim R. BauerCrackpot theories masquerading as scholarship.Example: “The use of parataxis [simple short sentences] in Matthew and Mark means that the events described within these gospels did not historically take place, but were interpolations from older Jewish lore and tradition that were added to the gospels because they sort of fit with the narrative that the Evangelists wanted to portray to their audience.” That anyone who calls themselves a scholar would qualify, sentence length, as a proper criterion to determine the historicity and authorship of an ancient document is utterly asinine. What is worse, is the cheap and sleazy trick they use to get people to believe that they are actually engaging in profound and meaningful academic discourse, namely their overuse of lofty and unnatural technical terms to express even the simplest of ideas; when in reality the theories and opinions that they push on this podcast are all very simple skeptical arguments based on very lazy elementary level logic. This is not scholarship. This is fringe, mythicist smoke and mirrors pseudo-theology masquerading as scholarship. These are not even good arguments for atheists and skeptics they are that pathetic. I wish I could have given 0 stars.

ShruglordThorough, fantastic, understandable scholarshipLove the work Ian and Laura pour into this podcast. Breaking down important works of New Testament scholarship for their audience. A true gem and always worth the listen
-
Zman1824Nice Job.Great idea for a podcast. And great execution for the podcast. Do you have a NT Review email?
-
W-CookDo they ever take a breath?Just started listening. Slow down. Please. I love the info but I feel exhausted after listening. The edits appear to cut out space between sentences so it sounds like a stream of consciousness. How about keeping breaks between sentences so it sounds natural (ala like your colleague Dr Goodacre’s podcast)?

ebergen92Great podcast for anyone wanting to learn about NT scholarshipEvery episode is full of a ton of information. Sometimes it’s a bit over my head but that’s great because it pushes me to learn more. The hosts are great too and the livestream after shows on YouTube are a really great addition.

Kerry King is eyesncowsAlways interestingI’ve been listening for a few weeks to Laura Robinson and Ian Mills discuss New Testament studies. I’m delighted to have found this podcast. I remember many of the classics they review (I finished a Master of Divinity in 1975 and am a retired United Methodist pastor). They are always interesting and offer cogent, critical concern and appreciation for the scholarly work that has preceded their own.
-
Chicken McPantsHelpful, clear, good production valueI’m so tired of podcasts that are really just unstructured, rambling conversations. This is not one of those podcasts. It has excellent structure, and both hosts speak with great clarity. Their summaries of influential writings are helpful, fair, and unbiased.
-
G. CocoaA Great Resource for All AudiencesI love this podcast because it helps make biblical scholarship so accessible and understandable to people outside the academy. The hosts are witty, informative, and entertaining. You can really tell they’re passionate about what they do! It’s a perfect resource for anyone wanting to explore the world of biblical studies.
-
AugustineFTWHistorical Criticism is normally a bore, but...This podcast is terrific. Or, should I say “binge worthy”? Ian and Laura are clear, coherent, fair, and well-prepared in their presentation of the works they review. Their strategic back-and-forth breaks the somnolent perorations of the typical academic podcast. They even make an inherently uninteresting and moot discipline like historical criticism sound interesting. Well done!

Jaime68356702GREATAs a Hebrew Bible scholar, all I can think when I listen to this podcast is why, oh why, is there nothing truly like it for the Hebrew Bible. The hosts are so informative, while at the same time, so engaging. I can’t get enough.
-
Peter NixonMy new favorite podcastThis is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in key arguments in NT studies in the last half century or so. The hosts are knowledgeable and engaging. Well done.

FloridaIsNiceThisTimeofYearLike being back in grad school, but in a good way.To a long-graduated non-Biblical scholar, this is a fun listen. The hosts are excellent "unpackers" of complicated subjects, and their opinionated, nuanced explanations are wonderful for non-specialists like myself who are interested in learning more about New Testament studies. It has all of the fun of a seminar course, but the hosts are doing the 1000s of pages of reading instead of me:)
-
ThetaGammaOmegaNTRevueEntertainingly nerdy presentation. They have a good instinct for level of detail, and excellent judgment about what needs explaining and what doesn't for the moderately biblically literate listener. They aren't afraid to make judgements and give opinions either. I've learned a lot in the past week of NTR binging. Kudos to them for making the time to do this on top of their demanding graduate work.

NotaFairfaxHippyYou don't have to believe in Jesus to enjoy this podcastI'm not a scholar, but these folks are and they make learning about the New Testament interesting and thought provoking. Highly recommended if you like the NT Pod podcast.
-
bploweCompelling, addicting podcastAs a Reformation scholar drawn to early church history I find this podcast to be stimulating and topically relevant. The two hosts wonderfully open up the main issues in New Testament studies with their spot on reviews of major works of scholarship. Theirs is the perfect combination of lucid explanation and analysis. I wish Reformation studies had something similar.
-
sottesonThoughtful and interesting discussions about New Testament scholarshipI’m not a scholar in this area of study but I enjoy listening to those who are. These discussions have helped me get the gist of the arguments of many different important works in the field. Whenever I see a new episode I’m excited to see what they have to say.
-
WojohoskiMy New Favorite PodcastThis podcast is an absolute delight! It successfully manages to be both informative and entertaining. They are able to break down complex scholarly ideas and arguments in ways that anyone can enjoy. I only wish there were more episodes!
-
Josh H from TexasMVP Superbowl Quarterback Jedi Master PodcastRather than taking time out of their busy schedules as grad students to promote themselves and their own work, Laura and Ian helpfully undertake in this podcast to discuss some of the most significant works in prior generations of New Testament scholarship. I have found this podcast enriching; I feel somewhat aware of what's going on in contemporary NT Studies, but hearing them discuss what are now somewhat dated but nonetheless classic works that shaped contemporary debates has been very useful to me. Even where I would disagree over some important matters I always learn something from their stimulating conversations.
-
753spqrPedanticOne needs only listen to the lecture of Joel Marcus to learn why this podcast is so flawed. An unfortunate combination of ideologically driven research coupled with a presentation style only fellow researchers and perhaps their mothers could appreciate. Far better and more balanced podcasts are available.
-
JonLecHeraculiaTasteful, Informative, and EntertainingNot everyone has direct access to classical pieces in the study of the New Testament or the background to contextualize them. This podcast very honestly outlines the material in seminal pieces of scholarly literature while remaining concise and appropriately lighthearted. I’m grateful for the resource it is for me in my non-professional forays into this field.
-
labelingGreat Podcast-Worth ItNot all podcasts are worth the time. This one is totally worth it. Great scholarship. Great reviews of books that a lot of people will never have time to read. Great analysis of those works. Keep up the good work!
-
Marty KihnExcellent and accessibleThis is a lot of fun - a lively discussion that provides an overview and critique of important New Testament scholarship accessible to non-academics. Highly recommended.
-
jgomezpaoInsightful, Unreserved, & BalancedThis duo provides the right balance of presenting the arguments of classic works with contemporary research. For those of us who like to restrict our interests to Jesus studies, this team unveils the fascinating issues still being debated in other NT themes. Thanks for taking the time in putting together these well organized episodes. -Jorge
-
BrittaForlandScholarly, Approachable, EntertainingGreat survey of important works of New Testament scholarship. Hosts are clear, concise, and deeply learned.

Eman48!Great podcastReally well done!
-
HahatahahyshWould have given it 6 stars!Fantastic podcast! So glad I found it!!
-
GordonChristenGreat podcast and jumping off pointThis podcast is a great intro to the issues of NT scholarship, but also does a good job of inviting the listener to read along or to explore on their own. The covered texts are always interesting, but often further reading will be suggested on a particular topic. Nice way to expand your NT horizons or revisit seminal texts.
-
eric9meyer4Solid expounding of scriptureBoth of these PHD candidates really shed light on the context of familiar scriptural passages. These short episodes are solid for understanding the life and the times of the early church!
-
afreydopemasterLove itSuch a dope podcast.
-
hoponacometConcise and EnlighteningAs someone with an interest in biblical studies in general and the New Testament in particular, Laura and Ian's podcast is invaluable. They succinctly present the works of scholarship that have affected New Testament research over the last century and offer their own insights into the arguments made. And whereas many podcasts that deal with topics related to biblical texts attempt to force a particular view onto the audience, neither Laura nor Ian do so which is a breath of fresh air. Though I am an atheist, I have found this podcast to be among the top 5 podcasts I listen to regularly. Excellent work!
-
ColmilloExactly what a biblical studies podcast should beThis podcast discusses interesting books and articles from a scholarly and non-confessional perspective. The hosts are fun and enthusiastic. This is how all biblical studies podcasts should be.
-
Josiah WayExcellent Review of Important ScholarshipThe hosts, Ian and Laura, have a great rapport with one another when discussing important NT scholarship that makes the listener truly engage. It’s great to relive these great works through these two Duke PhD scholars.
-
Luke.DrakeExcellentAn invaluable podcast for lovers and aspiring lovers of New Testament literature and scholarship. Laura and Ian's discussions of foundational works of NT scholarship are incisive and engaging. I look forward to each episode.
-
jponniaEye-OpeningThe best scholarship on the New Testament is presented in an accessible way. The discussions are deep, thorough, and completely engaging. Great work!
-
Dr. Crocoduck PretoriusA good introduction to foundational texts of modern biblical scholarshipLike many people today, I’ve become interested in learning what biblical scholars have to say about the Bible. Laura and Ian have been doing a great job of introducing some of the foundation texts of modern biblical scholarship and summarizing the key ideas that make these works important.
-
Cole ProfGreat Theological PodcastGreat podcast, explains the nuances of theological topics in an understandable way. Really like that the episodes are concise. Clearly Ian and Laura could make each episode 3 hours or more, but it’s nice to have a thoughtful podcast that doesn’t drag on. Show is great, excited for more episodes to come.
