    Spence is great
Listened to this man for years. I really enjoy his style and knowledge
  • still atit
    Bad strategy
Dropping loud frantic ads into an otherwise calm conversation is VERY jarring and irritating, like having a schizophrenic in charge who is toggling between Jekyll and Hyde personalities. Makes the next episode easy to skip.

    Jazz Negativity
Loved the show, but the constant negativity towards the Jazz is making me take a break. I’ll have to follow again in a few years

    Good listen but…
I enjoy the podcast - Spence is always a good (albeit arrogant) contrarian view. That said, in what world is calling half of your listeners morons for using the word “woke?”

    Simply put … the best
Although I don’t regularly get to listen to the four hour segment, I genuinely love listening to every bit of Spence Checketts on The Drive. Articulate, smart, just the right amount of passion. Objective but still a Utes slant of course. Porter does great too. Thanks for making my day better each day.

    Good stuff
I enjoy 90 percent of the content. The show gets too woke for me about 1/4 of the time. I just delete the segment at that point.

    Listen
It would be 5 stars but Spence just won’t listen to John Canzano

    Steady decline
I use to listen to Spence daily. He’s brilliant with the NBA rules, salaries, and logistics. But he has just steadily declined over the years with sooooo much negativity. Its unlistenable imo. He even admits to being the old get off my lawn man so it seems like he recognizes his anger and pessimism. I wish he would be more uplifting than draining. Its just gotten so much worse over the years. I haven’t listened consistently to him in a while so hopefully he’s changing but the last several times I’ve tried to listen I have to change the channel.

    Number 1 for a reason
I thoroughly enjoy the intelligent perspective of the shows host. I don’t always agree but I like that he’s not one of the local sheep. I’ve been here for 30 years and it’s awesome to have the show on ESPN700. Thank you!!! And please don’t go anywhere.

Best Utah Sports Coverage hands down.
Best Utah Sports Coverage hands down. From the Intro music (souls of mischief 93’ till) to the exceptional coverage of Utah sports covered by the best in the market, Spence Checketts, it literally doesn’t get any better than this. Utah sports lover's blessed to have such an outstanding host with exceptional coverage of all the things we love. Keep up the great work and thank you. 🏀🏈⚽️🥊🥋⛳️🏟⁉️

    Love this show
I honestly think Spence is the best in our market. I was a big Zone listener until they switched up the lineup. I love that Spence has reached out to some of the guys that network let go. That being said the access Spence has to big names is great. I’ve picked up listening to far more podcasts because of him. That includes catching the drive whenever I miss it.

    Too political and self righteous.
I think Spence’s overall insight and knowledge are sound and appropriate but he uses the platform to push his own beliefs and belittle options of those that differ from his own. Sports and politics are not always separate but it seems as though Spence looks for opportunities to push his agenda.

    Amazing Interview with Harper lol
Your insights into all the bizarre political things that you are 100% right about is the reason why you’ll have a microphone for only another short stint — until, that is, you forget to live by the principles you claim to espouse. We all know where this story ends...again. I just wish we could all be as righteous as Spence thinks he is. And if there’s another human who loves the smell of his own crap as much as Spence does, I’m sure Spence would hunt him down on the freeway after one of his parties. In reality, if you took a step back for just two minutes to understand all the ways that you project your own failures, racism, arrogance, and stupidity on people who (logically and thankfully) disagree with you, it wouldn’t take long to realize that we aren’t all that far apart politically. Unfortunately you’d rather continue on your path of destruction and division and self-righteousness (which, again, is pretty rich Lol) rather than try to see and understand why the other side thinks and feels the way they do. But alas, leftists gonna leftist... And just as Spence is beginning to run out of material to claim that he’s so far above all these “Utahns” who don’t know basketball, don’t understand the NBA (because they were never a ball boy for the Knicks), and couldn’t possibly grasp the gravity of the racial situation in America today, the media works overtime on his behalf so that he can ask every guest how he feels about racist Utahns. Someday Locke and Checketts will just get together and have a serious passing contest to see who can better mansplain to Utahns how to be, you know, virtuous. Then, of course, they’ll hit the freeways for a high speed chase just for old times’ sake.

    Best NBA Voice in Utah
Spence consistently brings new angles and insight when it comes to the NBA. He’s not programmed to just ask guests “so, what do you think about the Jazz”. He pulls out personal histories and great NBA stories from all the national writers that join the show. Hands down my favorite listen in the Utah market.

The only voice in Utah speaking truth. Keep doing your thing man. When you have haters it means you do something right. Much respect. Thanks for your work !!!!

    So glad you’re back, Spence.
Best in the market. Looking forward to ALL your BYU and Jazz coverage. Ute fans, word of advice, just download the segments that have your Ute content.

    Love this show
I had been waiting over a month for another reality check podcast and when it finally came that’s when I found out about the drive. I was a huge fan of the big show for years and I kept waiting for him to be back on that show but I couldn’t be more happy to find out about this one. Spence has a style of radio that is very unique and he brings insights and expertise about local sports that you can’t get from anyone else. From what I can tell the guests are great the format is fantastic and you have a new loyal listener.

    Frank Layden
Glad to see Frank come on the show. I was surprised where he took the interview. He had been such a community unifier and leader. To see him resort to name calling was very disappointing to me. I’d expect he would not call our president a moron. I’m shocked it came out of his mouth, disappointed, and puzzled. I’ve viewed Frank and Barbara as Utah’s first couple too. So many years of esteem challenged in a split second. Frank, words matter. I prefer to see your bully pulpit used to united not divide. I have to wonder if we have much in common anymore or if I can view you as an example of a community leader.

    Love the Drive
It’s so great to have Spence back in the airways! He is a skilled interviewer that doesn’t beat around the bush. Spence is spot on with his takes and his sources. Check out the drive and give it a chance!

    Real sports talk
I love sports talk, but can’t stomach the shows that spend more time trying to be funny and focus on themselves instead of sports. When I listen to Spence I always walk away feeling better informed and more knowledgeable about my favorite teams and sports. No schtick, just insightful entertaining talk. He is the best interviewer in the Salt Lake market. Great show!!

    The best in the business
Spence is not only the most thoughtful and entertaining radio host in the Salt Lake market, he’s one of the best I’ve heard nationwide. He is well-prepared and brings insights that you just don’t hear on other shows. He doesn’t rely on inane listener calls to kill time. He has an extensive network of industry insiders and his fresh takes are based on actual industry experience and relationships, not just from reading the latest articles.

    Back to listening
So great to have Spence’s knowledge and talent back on the air. Utah sports radio has sorely missed this.

    Welcome back!
It’s been a rough commute the past year without Spence on air. He gets it, even when I may totally disagree with him. I’m not from UT and it’s hard to listen to the other homers on local sports talk. Spence is the best by a mile.

    Angles you didn’t think of...
Spence Checketts is back! His analysis, insights and connections take your sports (and life) mind to different angled views you’d never think, thus opening your mental capacity...plus its engaging! Have a listen and judge for yourself!
