I’ve loved to watch and read about sports for a long time but never listen or talk about them - til now. These 2 hosts are funny, informative, knowledgeable, keep current, and really bring an extra level of understanding to all sports, with a special focus on Womens teams!

I used to listen to 4 different sports podcasts, but was frustrated that all the news coverage and commentary was on men’s sports. At best, one story (out of dozens) per week would have been related to women’s sports. The gist covers sports of all genders! And…I 🩷 their jingle. GIST - Please play the whole thing at the end of each episode. It gives me the right boost to start my day! (The shortened jingle misses some of the pump up!) Keep up the great work, and continue growing sports fans for all sports (and sport documentaries!).

Absolutely my favorite way to hear about different sports topics. They do a great job of giving you the “gist” of many different sports, leagues, and events.

I love, love, love this podcast. I started listening for coverage of women’s soccer and so glad I did. The episodes have a great combination of data and reporting along with good vibe commentary from hosts Ellen Hyslop and Stephanie Rotz.

As a title 9 ancester, I was able to do HS cross country, track and basketball in the late 70’s and early 80s. There weren’t many fans, nor encouragement out there save for a few young coaches. Your show is simply amazing and so rich with information and encouragement! Thank you. I listen with awe and am inspired.

Love this podcast. It’s the perfect length, provides great context for the latest in sports news, and love that it covers both women’s and men’s sports and feels inclusive whether you’re an avid sports fan or a casual listener.

Love the podcast. I’m always up to date on the sports and know what’s happening in the sports world. Easy to understand and I usually laugh once or twice in the episode because the women enjoy each other making you wish you could be friends with them.

I’ve been listening weekly from the start because of how up to date and fun this podcast is. From heavy topics to post-season previews, the Gist always nails it. As a women looking for sports content focused on women, I get so much joy from everything the Gist does.

My sports knowledge has not been the same since stumbling upon this group two years ago via random google search! I was a D1 athlete and starting searching for ways to be more involved/learn about other sports. They do a fantastic job of covering a variety of sports and teams, while staying up date. I am very appreciative of this group!

May or may not have spent the couple last months listening to every episode of the gist 🥲 and I loved it all. A nice mix of team updates, player news, systematic issues, and structural failings in the world of sports.

For anyone who turns their nose up at womens sports, this podcast will change your mind. It shows how womens sports is just as exciting as mens sports with amazing feats of physical strength and all the intrigue and suspense to go with it. Met Ellen in NYC in probably 2019 and followed The Gist pretty closely after that and after hearing what an amazing idea The Gist had for getting more women involved in sports and sports business. After switching jobs I forgot to resubscribe to the newsletters but in a podcast lull this week I refound The Gist and have listened to episodes back to April already. I couldn't be happier to have their perspective about what's going on in the sports world!!

Listening to them is like chatting with friends. They make sports so approachable and care about the players and teams they talk about. It’s a fun and easy podcast to listen to. You don’t need an insane amount of sports knowledge to follow along, but long term sports fans would still find it interesting and entertaining. Absolutely love.

Hearing from Ellen and Steph is so refreshing, entertaining, yet educational!! Their attitudes and sports insight have enhanced my life and I never want to stopping getting sports coverage from them. I love starting my day with Ellen and Steph’s coverage and fun analysis of both women’s and men’s sports! They touch on both sport events and the latest in sports news - often on stories that affect women/women’s sports that don’t get coverage on ESPN or mainstream networks. Great way to keep up with what’s going on in sports, especially women’s sports. The hosts are great, I could listen to them talk about anything. Also enjoy that they cover Canadian sports too, since I know very little about that.

Steph and Ellen are the best! I’ve always loved football, but they’ve really helped me branch out into sports I never thought twice about like hockey. I love that they always cover current events and don’t shy away from speaking on “controversial” topics. Their voices are also so calming, I could listen to them all day 😂

Sportscenter doesn’t know how to give the tea on WNBA news and the Gist does. Plus, their enthusiasm for women's hockey is infectious!

I have always been a big baseball fan, and following along each season was never a challenge for me. In recent years though I’ve really wanted to get into the WNBA and NWSL, but I knew nothing about basketball or soccer. Ellen and Steph do a phenomenal job of making sure they explain things thoroughly enough for everyone to understand. I really feel like they held my hand and guided me into the W and NWSL. Now I’m huge a huge fan of both and constantly looking for ways to support my local team! I couldn’t have done it without them, and the rest of The Gist staff.

I’ve been a faithful reader of the newsletters for a while and started to check out the podcast more recently! I love the comfortable format of the show - it really feels like I’m sitting around a table with friends chatting about something we love - sports! Love the wide range of topics covered and that they are always trying to highlight important stories that are both big and under covered. Keep it up!

I love The Gist and their content. I am subscribed to their email newsletter and it is literally the BEST newsletter I have ever subscribed to. They are a women lead company (and that’s awesome in itself) but to top it off they go above and beyond to give the people what they need sports updates 3x a week and this podcast is amazing because it takes the cake on giving you on and off field experience in the sports world. Absolutely love this podcast, this company, and everything they stand for!!!

found the GIST just recently and i’m so glad i did. i’ve never been the sportiest but i love keeping up with what’s happening, and I want to know what’s going on in women’s sports as much as men’s. the GIST gives me all the relevant news from all sides of the playing field (literally). i’m so excited to have found this and can’t wait to recommend it!

I absolutely love the Gist! Growing up I loved watching sports and the breakdowns, but I noticed the difference in sports broadcasters as they added in their own style. The Gist adds a refreshing take to the sports industry in a way that is void of being condescending. Absolutely love this in tandem with the newsletter!

As a plus size athlete, and lover of all things sports, I am SO happy to have found this pod. The conversation in each episode refreshing and intelligent, and they get into issues that MATTER in the sports world. Thank you the Gist for existing and for spreading the word that women can love sports too.

So here for this coverage. Discusses Women's sports and all the important news in all sports. Not just scores but what matters - mental health, allegations/court cases, etc. Yes yes yes.

I started following The Gist a few years ago and have LOVED their content! These women talk about more than just men’s sports (which is hard to come by). They are well versed on every topic and are incredible hosts!

I stumbled upon the gist and thought there was no way I’d like it, but I gave it a try anyway. I’ve always loved playing sports and watch but I’ve never been someone who knew all that was going on. Wow was I wrong! This podcast is great and definitely gives you “the gist” of what’s going on without just boring you with stats and names. I love knowing what’s going on and having my eyes opened to problems in the sports industry I was blinded too before. It’s so nice to see women in sports podcasting!

This podcast and all of The Gist’s programming makes me feel seen and heard! As anyone reading this review may know, the tendency for men to gate-keep sports is a strong one. The Gist takes hefty pliers strait to the gate’s padlock! Not only do the hosts cover women’s sports but they make ALL sports accessible, understandable, and fun to be a part of. I look forward to their weekly newsletters hitting my inbox knowing the stories will be relatable and inclusive. this is the only sports podcast i listen to regularly. i get fresh insight and new perspectives into some of the things facing the sports i already follow, and up to date information on sports i’m not as into but still want to be in the conversation about. plus, 25 minutes is perfect for a podcast, imo.

Always wanted to be able to join in on convos around sports but was so hard to keep up with all that’s going on. Been a reader of the gist for several months now and been a huge fan. Love the style of writing and just the approachable way the newsletter helps keep me and others updated! And of course - the ways in which the gist has been fighting the good fight for women’s sports.
