I love Shaun and Rebecca. They are super entertaining and have useful insights. I listen even though I’m not an interior designer (it’s just a hobby). But I am a graphic designer and some of the business lessons do apply to me.

Having been working within it, I know some of these realities already but it’s completely different to hear what to expect as a business owner. I’ve been listening to this podcast for over a year now and also gone back and listen to all the previous episodes as well. Shaun and Rebecca are so so awesome. The information is so relevant and helpful. I found a lot of value in their Patreon community as well. There are a ton of helpful downloads to get you buttoned up with your processes. but aside from that, they have created a really wonderful community. I don’t really have a designer community that I’m tapped into in my area, so they really feel like my design besties. I can’t wait to meet up with them in person at Market this fall!

I’m going to start by saying I’m typically the let’s get straight to the education and cut the chit chat type. Probably not the best thing to admit as an interior designer but I am aware of it and have learned how to be on stage lol. Not devoid of fun just a bit in overwhelm having left my design gig of 29 years and going at it on my own. Anyhow, I met Rick Campos at a SOCAL NKBA event and was chatting about podcasts and he recommended this one. At first admittedly, I was like OK come on let’s get to the educational topics but I kept coming back and now I’m totally hooked and appreciate the lighthearted conversational approach to the show. Thank you both for putting out such a fun and educational show!

I discovered the HYDC podcast during the pandemic and have been subscribed ever since! Whenever a new episode appears on my feed, I jump to hit "play". I've been listening to Shaun & Rebecca for three years now, as my business has been growing. They've been with me every step of the way as I've grown from a brand new "I have no idea what I'm doing" baby interior designer to "hey ok, this is all coming together ... I have a lot of clients and I'm about to move into an office" interior designer. I have learned SO much from them, in very applicable ways. They keep it real, they make you laugh, and they are clearly very lovely people you'd definitely want to be friends with in real life. Can't recommend this podcast enough!

As someone who is just gearing up to launch my design business, I’ve found this show to be incredibly helpful! Shaun and Rebecca share so much valuable information and advice that’s hard to find elsewhere and that many other designers seem to guard closely. I really appreciate that they break down the ins and outs of running a design business in a super simple, transparent way (without being patronizing or pretentious). Rebecca and Shaun, you guys are hilarious! I was walking my dog and listening to your podcast when you joked about exposing your swatches under your trench coats! I lost it completely! I have downloaded several of your templates including the Good, Better, Best and Guide to Procurement. I send these to clients along with thumbnails of sample storyboards and spec docs after a promising discovery call. I know giving them this information early sets me apart from other designers they are interviewing! Clients appreciate the information and I get work because I share up front my model. Designers, you’re missing out if you’re not subscribing to HYDC. Our world can be a tough and demanding place which is why we have to keep a sense of humor. I’m celebrating my 20th anniversary on my own this year and I know enough to know I’m learning every day! Keep being awesome! Love you guys!

When starting my studio I would listen to every podcast I could find to soak up all the info. I found that most podcasts focus on more established designers and left everyone else wondering how to actually get started. I love Hot Young Designers Club for it’s down-to-earth vibe, humorous banter and of course the truly informative resources. Thank you for being a friend to all the new designers out there!!

I’m not a designer... yet. Shaun and Rebecca are truly incredible, and I treat this show like a free education. They do an excellent job of breaking down opaque processes and listening to the show feels like hanging out with friends. If you’re new to the show, set aside some time — you’ll want to binge listen!

As the title says, I’m not a designer. I am exactly the kind of design enthusiast that I think both of the hosts find annoying. But I don’t find them annoying! Instead, as someone who may be hiring a designer in the not-too-distant future, it has been so helpful to hear the real, real from behind the scenes. It’s just good to know what to look for in a designer and what to expect from the process. So even if you are not hot nor young and NOT a designer, this is still a good listen!

What can I say, I love this Pod cast so much! I am constantly learning new ways to improve my interior design business. I literally can’t stop listening to it. Thank you Shaun and Rebecca for sharing your knowledge!

I’ve felt very alienated since the start of the pandemic and missing interactions with other dissenters. Coffee meet ups, etc. This show has been a life saver during this time. This is long overdue! I started listening to HYDC when I first started my design business in 2020. Firstly, I felt like I had “friends” in the industry while listening. Being a newbie can be stressful and isolating (especially during a pandemic year!). I would (still do) feel better and motivated after listening. Secondly, the episodes are super helpful! I’ve re-listened to some of the episodes, specifically process party episodes, to see how I can do things better. I highly recommend this to anyone starting off in the industry.

It feels like I’m sitting at the bar talking to two friends who just also happen to design and want to talk about my favorite subject that none of my irl friends care about- the business of design. I enjoy listening on my way to projects while I’m driving around town and I’ve gotten a few great tidbits out of their conversations to apply to my own business. I just started using Acuity thanks to them and hopefully it will be as amazing as it appears. Sometimes you just need to hear that it is working for someone else before investing time and energy into a new process. I wish they lived near me so we could meet up for brunch. Just the right amount of sassy- Keep up the great work!

When I open up my podcasts, this is the first one I check on with hopes for a new episode. With this being my first year as a solo interior designer, Shaun and Rebecca have been an integral part of building my business. One of the biggest things I appreciate about them, is that they are still old-school enough to value the importance of picking up the phone to have tough client conversations, yet are savvy with technology, (something that I need more of). The show strikes the perfect balance of serious and fun, and I even love when the two don’t agree with each other- it helps me too consider options that might work best for my business and clientele.
