Thank you to the both of you for keeping the memory of the Gimli Glider still alive. I have always been talking a lot about Air Canada Gimli Glider Boeing 767 Bob Pearson. Bobby Patty Ann Dunn

    Miss this one
I listened to this pod for years. I came back today for a refresher on Aloha 243, Realized how much i’ve missed it.

    Two entitled twits ruin podcasts
This may be the worst podcast I've heard. Hosted by two rich, white (of course they're white) twits with no aviation backgrounds, they recap crashes by using news articles and Wikipedia. 50% of the episode's runtime is devoted to 1. bragging about being wives 2. shilling for their Patreon and 3. inane chatter not related to any specific topic. This is proof literally anyone can make a podcast - and since they are Patreon-only now, it seems there are still too many dumb, gullible schmucks in the world.

    meh
you won't learn anything new here that you couldn't get from five minutes on Wikipedia sorry, as they say "we are not pilots, we are not engineers…" So why would I want to hear an average persons opinion on research they gathered from the Internet. i'm used to listening to aviation podcasts with some level of expertise in the field.

    Overexaggerated
I’ve listened to dozens of true crime and disaster podcasts, and I’ve found this one hard to listen. 7 minutes in the beginning of the episodes to talk about random things before they even get to the ‘housekeeping’ rants. They are very overexggerated about numerous things per episode. I get it, it’s sad, and it just gets annoying to hear things overdone like they do it on this podcast. “ I just need to take a moment to absorb what you just told me” is an exact quote from an early episode available on Apple, it is so exaggerated to the point I immediately turned it off with a cringe face. They portray the incidents and accidents in a manner that’s obviously making it about them, and how it makes them feel, it’s not about them in any capacity, they are telling of the story of how things happened, in which they do very well. They are accurate and do incredible deep dives and try to tell you in a way to understand the technology, I just can’t listen to the way they tell it. It takes on a whole “thoughts and prayers” vibe to me in the way they speak. If you can get past that aspect, they might be enjoyable, but I’m not one of those who can.

    I Miss You Already
I only just discovered this pod, and the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is I’ve never heard of a podcast that doesn’t have any free access. I’m mostly through the back episodes and I’ll miss Stephanie and Shelly’s masterful storytelling. I hope the Patreon peeps continue to enjoy these skies.

Initially I enjoyed this podcast. I liked the difference between this and the other air disaster podcasts I've tried, which is stories of the people going through these horrors. But because I began this podcast when they already had quite a back catalog means an overload of personal information and banter, which gets tiresome. I like the in-depth coverage they give to the air disasters; of course, the podcast isn't always even because each crash/disaster aren't always equally interesting. I try to not pay too much attention to the banter, but when I'm working I can't always fast forward. In the episode I was listening today, I heard this cognitive dissonance: "I love animals" and something about her husband running with the bulls, a violent, archaic practice. So the banter killed this for me. It had been getting on my nerves anyway, but this final piece of information about the "joys" of animal cruelty put the final nail in the coffin. I can't separate something so unnecessary as stabbing bulls with spears and chasing them into a pen to continue stabbing them until they die from the people who support it.

    Get to it!!
Let’s just get to the point. They title doesn’t say “Life story” I wanna here what the tile says your gonna be talking about. As someone who aviation is there life. I wanna just hear the story. Other than hearing all the annoying stuff at the beginning. This is a great podcast.
  • marian862
    Good topic; poor presentation
The topic is fascinating. But the banter and the laughing at the beginning is inappropriate and disrespectful. It’s also mindless. Just skip the nonsense and get to the topic.

    Great and human podcast
As someone who studies disasters in the academic setting, this podcast is my latest obsession and a really great handling of a really sensitive subject matter. It is definitely geared towards non-aviation-knowledgeable listeners, but I don’t think that necessarily means people in the field wouldn’t enjoy it. Most important is the stories of survivors and victims— this is something that is routinely missing from every other air disaster podcast I’ve listened to, but is so important to the stories being told. Hosts have great chemistry— I feel like two of my friends are telling me about something really interesting. Extra star for no ads!

    Best Air Disaster Podcast
I listen to all the plane crash podcasts and while they're all great, this one is my favorite for three main reasons - 1) The hosts voices are pleasant to listen to 2) They to not interrupt the story with ads 3) They focus on the people involved in the incident so we learn more about their lives than you'll hear in other podcasts

    Five Stars ✈️
I thoroughly enjoy this podcast. The two hosts are terrific in telling these stories. Great format to each episode and particularly enjoy them including the perspective of the passengers as part of the story. Similar podcasts focus mostly or only on the what and why of the incident…and they get into that here too…however they also touch on what the passengers were or might have been experiencing and even delve a little into their stories, and it adds a layer of humanity to these often horrific events. Binge worthy.

    Binge-able!
This is one of two very different air disaster pods I enjoy, and while they often cover similar events, I love the humanity focus of this one. Both Stephanie and Shelly are very well-spoken and each episode takes me on a full journey. I’m mostly caught up with previous seasons and am subscribed for any more! The one thing that I don’t enjoy is the frequently extraneous conversation/ catch up that usually takes about 10 minutes before they get into the story… however it’s easy to skip past. Absolutely recommend!

    Where are episodes 1-41?
For some reason I only get episodes 42 and higher. Why? It’s so weird. I do like the stories. I usually fast forward through the banter at the beginning and end.

    Air disaster podcast done right
I so appreciate the chemistry between the hosts; it’s fun yet they get serious about the actual air disasters they discuss, with great respect for all involved. As a librarian, I especially appreciate the research they do and the writing, as well as the production value. And despite the fact that flying still makes me nervous, and I’m flying to Italy in September, I really like how the hosts stress their podcast’s intention: to educate people about flying, put the disasters in context, and stress the changes implemented as a result to make flying safer than ever. Update: these two are very professional and eloquent—I never hear them say “um.”

Too much banter equals less disaster assessment
Started listening in summer and became Patron. Then the banter increased.Despite podcast description hosts do give own assessment of investigation . Pilots are always excused despite report to contrary . No longer supporting

    Too much nonsense
Trying to listen to my first episode of this and 15 minutes in the hosts are rambling on about playground equipment and McDonald’s. Will not continue with this.

Well Researched, Great Chemistry, and a fantastic listen!!!
I absolutely love his podcast!!! A good well-researched podcast can be really hard to find but you can tell these ladies put the hard work in to make it as accurate as possible! Their storytelling is excellent and I feel like I’ve learned a lot from them! Worth checking out this podcast!!

Deleting bad reviews. Dumb non related banter
They have stupid insipid banter at the beginning . Stop.
  • Eric101775
    Terrific Podcast!!
Both hosts are terrific and the preparation that goes into each episode is amazing. This is the best podcast that deals with airline disasters and even when I think I know all there is to know about a particular event, I end up learning new information that is not available without obvious hard work and deep diving into the investigation. Thank you both!!

    Another Podcast For The Rotation
This is a great podcast. It’s refreshing to hear a unique take on this type of show. A lot of the bad reviews seem to be done in bad faith, I would not let them sway your opinion. Keep up the great work!

I tried to give it a chance
I listened to one of their earliest episodes and was put off by the giggling, which after reading reviews it seems others are as well. I thought that things would get better, but even recent episodes include the same and worse. What is worse is that they liken these events to “true crime” stories and in doing so seem to perceive these events as entertainment. People died or were seriously injured - physically, psychologically, or both. These are not true crime stories for entertainment. The repeated laughing and giggling further disrespects the incidents and the people impacted by them. I understand that this is a layperson’s podcast about air disasters, so I am not expecting long, technical explanations or a treatise into aviation and human factors psychology/engineering. The podcasts Inside the Black Box and to some extent, Causality do this wonderfully. Michael Bauer’s Plane Crash Podcast is a far superior layperson’s podcast and does so with the utmost respect for the dignity of those who passed away and their family members. The creators of Take to the Sky should do some soul searching and have more respect for those who were impacted by these incidents.

    After further review…..
I’ve listened to this podcast for over a year and liked it for the most part. I’ve actually recommended the pod to several friends. Alas the thing I originally praised the hosts for has now come to be standard in each episode: the laughing. Nothing turns me off from a podcast faster then constant laughter by the hosts. Guess these ladies are getting a little too comfortable. The pre story chit chat is another thing I can live without. If it deals with the topic, fine. But I’m not tuning in to learn about a maggot infested turkey. The hosts used to interact nicely, but now it seems that the one not doing the story is required to comment after every sentence from the other girl. The fluidity of the show has been lost because of the constant pausing to explain details that the average flyer does not need explained. Finally, as the show grows and the girls have their eyes set on global domination, the constant converting of feet to meters has gotten on my last nerve. If someone of average listening age is unable to quickly convert feet to meters, then they should be listening to podcasts dealing with the metric system. I’ve found another podcast that features two guys and they get right into the accidents. No preamble about personal matters, just good old conversation of flaming wreckage and body parts. Give that show a listen ladies. You can easily lop a good 25 minutes off of each episode. Lastly, Patreon. When a podcast goes Patreon I run away. If you’re doing the show for the love of it great. If it’s getting to the point that it’s eating into your free time and you feel you should be compensated, then quit. Showing a picture of a Dassault Falcon personal jet on the Patreon page sends a bad message to the listener, IMO! Oh and it’s a “trust reverser,” not a “reverse thruster.” It’s not a spaceship for gods sake.

    Congratulations, you’ve lost a listener!
My daughter and I enjoyed listening to the podcast each week over the past year or so. It used to be a straight forward air accident podcast, but we’ve noticed more and more unrelated chatter leaking into recent episodes. The latest episode (Lauda) hit an all time low, especially with the foul language. My teenage daughter was shocked to hear the “F bombs” and told me to put something else on a few minutes later. There’s a time and place for that language. I didn’t think the podcast was one of those places. There are too many superior podcasts and YouTube channels that delve into air crashes-and they don’t resort to language to make themselves chuckle. I will also not miss the constant conversions to meters after you give a distance or speed in standard units. Your next episode should investigate the crash of this podcast and how many listeners were lost.

    As a pilot I can’t listen
The title says ‘air disaster podcast’ but you won’t even hear about the accident until 10-15 minutes into the podcast after they talk about mindless nonsense and completely unrelated topics. Their knowledge on the subject is severely lacking and covered up by giggles and chit chat. When explaining simple systems, they are completely wrong. As a female pilot in the industry I was excited to hear about this podcast hosted by women but I’m very disappointed.

    Great podcast!
Of course I skipped all of Stephanie’s episodes because I couldn’t get past her speech problem “glives glost” “glegacy”. Shelly is a superb host and doesn’t annoy me even after hours of listening to her. Just FFwd through all of Stephanie’s dialogue and it’s a great podcast.

    Cut out Chit-Chat
Way too much chit chat on this podcast. Subject matter is good but they need to rethink how they describe stuff as I have heard numerous errors in how aircraft systems are described.
  • SmartyDrey
    Okay podcast with extraneous commentary
I listen to this somewhat often because I am interested in the subject matter. The information seems well researched and is well presented. They have an empathetic approach to a sensitive subject. I do very much wish that they would reduce the conversation and extraneous ‘fluff’ commentary. There is a lot of it and I find myself fast forwarding and/or zoning out. The episodes could probably be half the length, I just find it to be a lot of distraction from the timeline of events and so, so much fluff. It distracts so much from the information of substance.
  • Gothicchic21
Heard the ep about my grandpa’s murder
Not a show I would listen to again. I came across the episode about my grandpa’s murder, that was done nearly a year ago, which is just weird when nobody even gives you a heads up about it. Had some inaccuracies in it, took a while to actually get to the topic of the episode, the laughing was just so off-putting, the tone of someone just reading from a pre-written story isn’t the type of podcasts I typically enjoy. The airline isn’t even in business anymore but nothing was mentioned about them refusing safety measures that could have prevented his death, measures a particular person in the company refused & he is now deceased; was never held responsible in any way either. If my mom comes across this podcast I know it will be very, very upsetting for her too.
  • GenXRocks
    Thoughtful!
I listened to the episode about JFK Jr.’s crash. The hosts are thoughtful and deal with their subject in a straightforward, yet sensitive way, sharing details yet being respectful of those involved.
  • Rafhh
    Too much banter & giggling
I wanted to like this podcast. But there is too much banter and guffaws and giggling during the story telling. Serious subjects deserve a little more respect than the hosts convey. UPDATE. Do the hosts listen to their own show? Shelly, stop it with the dramatic guffaws, ughs, sighs, etc. I like the show, it would be more enjoyable without the inappropriate reactions from Shelly. The show about the Yemenia crash into the ocean was nearly unbearable due to Shelly’s constant outbursts.

    Episode 10, TWA Flight 800
These podcasters turned this episode into a skepticism-free infomercial for all the tinfoil hat theories about the mystery and presented them as facts, which is inexcusable. Along the way they’ve glossed over crucial aspects of the investigation, usually the ones that represent why this case is still not fully explained. A very poor effort.
  • burb73
Compassionate, compelling, and lessons not only learned but implemented as well
I couldn’t believe there was a podcast highlighting disastrous plane crashes! Having lost a beloved parent to a plane crash, I delved into this series and haven’t stopped listening yet. Their compassion and attention to detail is instrumental to understanding what it takes to make a plane fall from the sky, and it is disturbing to see that the common theme is a series of events. Has it been just one single thing yet? What I’ve grown to learn about disasters is it is usually cumulative; once the stuff hits the fan, nothing goes right after that. You do good work ladies, I enjoy learning from your labors.
  • 2muchp1zza
    Awesome
Listen, I have listened to and watched so many plane crash podcasts and you tube videos so I have heard all of these stories BUT these ladies are enjoyable to listen to, they never mention politics (which turns a lot of people off including me) and they bring a fresh view to these old and new stories. Their FB is regularly updated and they really like what they’re talking about so it’s enjoyable to listen to!
  • SchmoopArcher
Great Stories - Focusing in Legacy
As someone who is both terrified and fascinated by planes, I adore these ladies and their story telling. They tell the disaster stories so well, and focus on the legacies of everyone involved. Plane disasters sound like such a dark and awful thing to ‘enjoy hearing about,’ but they manage to do it in the most respectful and informative way. Thank you!!
  • Jb5423
    Pretty good!
I really enjoy this podcast. The only downside for me is a stupid one—one of the podcasters gargles her “l”s and it makes me cringe for some reason, especially when ever other word is “legacy”. I do enjoy the content, though. Keep them coming!

    Too Loud
I love this podcast, but the hosts have one level of volume and it’s an 11! Tone it down a few decibels, ladies!! 🤗

What is up with one of the podcasters pronunciation of the letter “L”?? So distracting and I really like this podcast, just can’t listen to it very often because of the weird sound she makes! Ugh

Plane crash podcast without the toxic masculinity
I love listening to plane crash podcasts, but don’t love the toxic masculinity that usually permeates. I don’t need too many intricate details, but I do appreciate good storytelling! Thank you! (My mom worked at LOT during the crash and actually knew a lot of staff who were lost)

    Pathetic
Try listening to a real aviation accident podcast like Inside the Black Box then come back to this cheese log and rate it again. Perfect for those who don’t know how much they’re missing! You won’t learn a thing.

    OBSESSED
I definitely thought this was a niche interest, but I’m so glad this podcast exists!! The stories are incredibly well researched and fantastically told.
