The host's pronunciation of foreign names and words is so poor and careless, that it gives off a lack of thorough research beyond simply reading text. While the host admits that he embellishes stories for "dramatic effect," the combination of near-fictionalized narratives and a blatant disregard for accurate pronunciation, especially of victims' names, is extremely off-putting and disrespectful, particularly for speakers of those languages. This gives off a whitewashed, fairy-tale feel, and I'm disappointed it took the host's handling of names to finally realize the problematic nature of this podcast.

And I have. Even listening for AGES. Me and my parents used to even just chill in the living room just listen to me Ballen! He is a great story teller. Just go listen! 🎧✨🙌🫡

I’m obsessed with this podcast! I love the way Mr. Ballen tells a story. I’ve only been listening for a couple of weeks. I started from the beginning, so I wouldn’t miss any episodes. My only worry is I’m gonna finish them too fast! Keep telling stories!!

I enjoy the stories, but the disclaimer at the end about how some details are fictionalized just feels icky.

In true crime episodes, I always hated how many details of he just makes up - glad to see he finally added a disclaimer. Keep in mind, if you’re looking for true crime, do not get it here, it is HEAVILY fictionalized.

This is basically like listening to 200 commercials with a bit of story playing in between every 4 commercials or so.

MrBallen always makes me interested in the stories he tells the stories in a way that makes you want to see what happens next it’s amazing love this podcast recommend it for sure 👍

I don’t usually care for podcasts but this one is superb! I can and have listened for hours! I get excited for new episodes every week because I have listened to every single episode. Thinking of going back and listening to all of the episodes again. Mr. Ballen is a fantastic storyteller. I wish I could give this 10 stars.

I so enjoy each story told in such a great narrative.

My only issue with this podcast are the ridiculously long pauses. I always think my phone has died or something.

Our family loves these podcasts but the sheer amount of ads are beyond frustrating.

This is my new favorite thing to do. Anytime I have a chance to listen to a Mr. Ballen story I take it. I’ve never been disappointed

I found MrBallen on YT & was obsessed after 1 video. I quickly found this podcast & have replaced my obsession for audiobooks with this podcast until I catch up. I cannot stop listening. You literally feel like you’re apart of the current story with how vivid the descriptions can be!

This is quite possibly my favorite podcast. Not a fan of his other podcast, but I do love this one. To each his own.

I stopped listening to all my other podcasts because this is the best! It’s perfect! I enjoy it more than I’ve ever enjoyed a podcast.

I really do love this podcast. I’ve been binging it over the last few weeks. BUT….Mr Ballen’s over use of the word “totally” is becoming distracting.

I have always watched his stories on YouTube and I love it! When I found out Mr. Ballen had a podcast, I nearly screamed in excitement lol now at night, I listen to his stories and it puts me right to sleep. Absolutely the best story teller!

My besty put me on this and we both love horror and she said that she love this so I decided to listen my self and I love it so I will wach it when ever I go to work I love listening to this on car rides to give my something to think about. Love to listen to this content so I recommend this to everyone and everybody who loves the dark and mysterious. ( sorry for eney missed spelling I am righting this on my whay in to work and I have dyslexia)

I really like this podcast and medical mysteries is my favorite podcast but I wish they would put a content warning on a lot of these. Many of them are super gruesome and for people with trauma of ptsd a content warning would be much appreciated. Episode 58 was so gory I couldn’t listen all the way through the last part. I’m knocking it down a point for the lack of warning.

I genuinely like this podcast and Mr. Ballens voice. However, he can make a simple sentence that could be 5-7 words into a sentence with 12-17 words. It’s exhausting to listen to such long sentences and repetition of details when telling stories. Details are repeated in different ways multiple times. If you can get past this then the stories are good. For example: I would say: 100s of police officers were out searching the city for a missing person. He would say: 100s of police officers were searching in cars and trucks, on bikes, all over the city, they were all searching, 100s of officers searching for the missing person because they wanted to find them.

I really like Mr Ballen and enjoy his style generally, but I’m getting really sick of what is blatant misinformation in order to add drama to the story. These stories are dramatic enough without the added details. At first I took issue with the descriptions about how murder victims felt or what they were thinking before they died. It’s unknowable and seems disrespectful, but while it irks me I can let it go. Then it’s skewing stories that have simple explanations to make them a mystery or the result of alien or supernatural activity. Kawagarbo mountain for example. It was an avalanche, period, not some angry mountain god. There are photos showing there was an avalanche, and the search afterward was hindered by more avalanches. They first started finding bodies/gear 7.5 years later and last found remains in 2019, because they’re coming out of a glacier as it’s moving/melting. Oh, and high altitude psychosis is a thing. This story was filled with lies and the disclaimer isn’t good enough. These are fictional stories and should be advertised as such, not just some changes for dramatic purposes. The deceit bothers me and the more of these I hear the more I question the ethics of Mr Ballen. Facts are more important than drama.

I’ve binged your youtube series and watched all your videos, this podcast is my favorite audio series! Storytelling doesn’t sound confusing and I don't miss anything even when I'm working on assignments or just drawing, revamped episodes are my favorite! ^^

Needs work on audio, I listen to his other podcast which are awesome!! But for some reason the audio don’t sound good. Good storytelling though

I’m completely obsessed with this podcast. At first the story format was hard to get into but now I love it. Almost all the stories have a resolution, and I don’t care if some of it is played up for dramatic effect, because that’s how stories (as opposed to journalism) work. The ONLY change I’d want to see is a spoiler warning about harm to animals. Any time an animal is even mentioned I turn the episode off because I don’t know what will happen

I don’t know what all these bad reviews are about because this is the best podcast EVER!
