Sleeping with Celebrities

86

Getting to sleep can be difficult sometimes. Now you can achieve that urgently needed rest by taking advantage of our most precious natural resource: celebrities. Each week on the slyly humorous and reassuring Sleeping with Celebrities, host John Moe talks with a different guest from the world of entertainment about something they know a lot about. The conversation is guaranteed to be just interesting enough to draw your attention away from your own swirling anxieties but never interesting enough to keep you awake. No startling revelations, no dramatic screaming confrontations, but plenty of low-key dialogue, intricately laced deadpan comedy, and a ticket to dreamland.

    Works!
It's interesting enough to give my brain a distraction from anxious rumination, and boring enough to fall asleep to. Plus I do love being called a sleepyhead.

It works! But no stress topics only please
It works. It puts me to sleep. And it’s hilarious in an understated, wonderful way. And also, somehow interesting but boring enough to make you fall asleep . I don’t know how it is all of these contradictory things, but it is. BUT please only stress free topics!!

    So grateful this exists
Going through menopause during the LA fires: I had to skip town for about a week with a sick child. All the sleep I got last week was thanks to this podcast. If I had one note, it would be that not every topic discussed in a low tone is "relaxing." Several of the topics have been way too stressful for me: toxic load, food waste, traveling with an infant during Covid in 2020. Not for me.

Playing over and over until I actually hear the whole interview
Each episode is a new favorite interview, the latest being the episode about Amy Tan feeding birds on a wildlife conservational grand scale. She’s so much like my mom, who I shared the episode with and got new stories after I managed to stay awake over lunch on the second play through. At night this podcast is guaranteed to put me to sleep by creating a safe space to kibitz someone else’s hobby. Their goal is usually not my goal but sometimes as with Amy Tan’s episode the hobby is something we’re doing already on our own smaller scale so it’s nice to know that if we met the successful person we would understand each other. It’s nice to know she’s out there watching and sketching birds. Thank you, John Moe, for great interviews and mood setting.☺️

    Best sleep ever
My husband told me about this show because Alan Tudyk is on it and now I’m the best sleepy sleeper on earth. I love all of the guests and hope they make this show forever.

    Slumber with a Twist
The most recent episode on July 3 was unbelievable. I’ll be honest. I was awake during the whole entire show. part of me knew I had to fall asleep and get some rest, but the other part of me was so engaged and I cannot turn it off. I just had to keep listening. I was so engaged with the history! Word of advice choose a topic that you find boring like reading the phonebook. I’m serious. I fell asleep to that one right away.

    The best sleeping podcast
It is just enough interesting and just enough calm. I love it.
  • please talk better
    dont like the song
I really like the show I love how calming it is I listen to it when I'm driving when I'm gardening but not to sleep. I don't wanna miss anything! what I do not like is the opening song. I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings but it makes me cringe, its cloying. I speed through, it's like the Barney theme song to me I don't ever need to hear that again.

    Perfectly Calming
They say to put your phone down an hour before bedtime, but they don’t tell you you can’t have a podcast playing while your phone is down. John Moe has possibly the most soothing voice of anyone on the planet, and his interviews are just the right amount of interesting, while still being calming and sleep inducing. Incidentally, I love to swish along at the end of each episode, and if he ever stops doing that I think I might cry.

    Soothing and funny
It’s so random that this works, but it does. Dozed off to Neil Gaiman the other night. John Moe is a great host, lets the guest work their magic.

The best thing ever to fall asleep to.
This podcast is nearly perfect. The only major issue is that there are not enough episodes. I have listened to every episode at least 10 times because it’s the only thing that puts me to sleep quickly. Please make more.

One of the funniest pods I have found as of late. But, I'm also a fan of Neil Hamburger. so take that as you will. 🙏🏾

    Update* Please interview Phoebe Judge
Dear Apple. Please add an extra star to this podcast, as I promised John one! Add another for pronouncing Nik Bo Bik correctly and not NikBob Ick lol! My only issue was, I got so EXCITED to hear my review read, and Phoebe and John together, I couldn’t sleep! Hahaha ok, ok, it could have been playing a game in my phone that kept me up! Love it! This podcast is amazing! All of John’s podcasts are great (and Phoebe’s!) ! The Hilarious World of Depression and Depresh mode helped me get through hospital work life during Covid. Thank you!

There are several episodes I have no memory of listening to because they worked so well. Even if I’m really struggling to fall asleep, I’m entertained and not ruminating or stressing out.

    Sleepyhead Love
This is the kind of podcast John Moe does best. He’s having a little fun, he’s completely engaged with his guests, and there’s nobody shrieking about the decline of the universe. (I have trouble listening to shrieking humans.) I’ve learned so many cool and random things. And I hope to meet Mr Cucumber some day soon. Thanks.

    A favorite
And the episode with michael ian black was the BEST.

    Too many favorites!
Please have on Bridger Winegar! Perfect voice and ‘tude for the show. I love this show almost too much! I had to stay awake for the F. Tompkins’ slideshow because they are simply the best 😂 I listen to Andy Daly’s ep over and over again, and love many others as well.

    Great podcast.
John Moe has a very pleasant soothing voice, he says important things and I have always enjoyed his podcasts. This is another home run for him. I have always had trouble falling asleep and this does the trick. I love all the episodes but my favorite is Open Mike Eagle. Two very pleasant, quiet voices talking and this episode always makes me sleep. I did listen to this episode when cleaning so I could listen to the whole thing and I couldn’t stop laughing, sooo hilarious!! Highly recommend podcast!

    Such a relaxing gift
Thank you, John Moe and guests, for your quiet conversations. Great for calm listening and dosing off. Maria Bamford’s episode was really funny! 😄 I greatly appreciate John Moe’s sensitivity and kindness to guests and listeners.

    8 whole hours!!
I tried this podcast last night and slept for 8 whole hours…in a row!! It’s such a rarity that it’s become quite a treat. Please keep making these. My sleeping (and waking) self appreciates them more than I can express.

    Perfection for insomniacs
I’ve listened to the Linda Holmes episode and the Andy Daly episode each like ten times. They always do the trick!
  • PibbleLuver
    The best!
Love this, I’ve tried many sleep podcasts and most end up creeping me out. This is so funny and wholesome, and does the trick.

    Brilliance
This podcast is just the antidote I need to help me deal with an insomniac world. Truly grateful to have stumbled across it- it tickles me right down to my toes. Hysterical stuff.

    At last
I’ve tried many sleep meditations and podcasts and finally found one just right. Thank you!
  • ratings are completely honest

    What is the name??????????!?!???????!???!?!!?!

    100% success rate
This podcast puts me to sleep but also just chills me out so beautifully. Specifically I would listen to Linda Holmes talk about nighttime soap operas for as many hours as she has. Please bring her back for every season of Melrose Place and then every other show she’s ever seen. “Yeah, actually, there were other apartment complexes they could have gone and lived in, but nobody ever seemed to know about those…” So, so good. Ten stars.

    My New Favorite Sleep Aid
All I need is to hear John Moe call me a sleepyhead and I’m out. Such a great show, and maybe someday I’ll actually hear an episode all the way through! 😴😴😴

    My New Favorite
It’s subtly funny. Soothes with a smile.

    Nervous system tamer
There is something so soothing about listening to the minutiae of someone’s latest project or routine. And it is so lovingly boring that I’m out like a light. I think it’s the quiet semi-monotonous tone of voice of people who are not entertaining you, just standing by (and perhaps standing watch) while you take a well-deserved rest. It reminds me of falling asleep as a child listening to old relatives talking except much more relaxing. If you have a faulty limbic system or just want to go to sleep, I highly recommend it.

    Amazing show
I have yet to finish a single episode. It’s just that good.

    Too murdery
Am I the only one that can’t comfortably doze off to guys talking about which household items are best to use for nudes? See you in my nightmares, guys.

    Light hearted
I hadn’t had much interest in podcasts as sleep aides until this came along. The boring story/nature sounds stuff just hasn’t been my thing. Something about quiet conversation is doing it for me though, must be the same reason my kid always asks my wife and I to talk quietly to each other instead of driving in silence when we’re driving home from something in the evening, it’s just kind of reassuring and soothing to hear some light and quiet conversation. Really looking forward to more episodes, I already added this to my Maximum Fun membership!

    Omg soo what I need!
I fall asleep to podcasts and talking all the time for bedtime this is so what I need just two people calmly talking! I can’t. Wait to try it out and wish there were more! Can’t wait for more!

    Love this!
    It does the trick.😉😴

    Almost there
Hi all. Assuming this is a serious podcast about helping people fall asleep and not parody, I suggest the following: (1) talk slower, a lot slower. Comedians rushing for a punchline are not sleep inducing (2) keep the crickets going in the background throughout. Very soothing. (3) no murder talk. Funny? Sure. But two comedians working out a bit engages me and keeps me awake (4) ditch rhythmic acoustic guitars with quick chord changes in favor of long piano chords with few changes. Think: Erik Satie coming out of sedation.
  • JAndrews94
    Funny, and it works!
I use podcasts to relax and fall asleep, but it’s hard to find ones where it doesn’t matter if you miss anything AND they’re entertaining. Thanks for understanding that relaxing doesn’t have to mean boring! One suggestion: can you remove the music at the end? For light sleepers like me, the change from voice to even quiet music is enough to wake me up.
  • ALGCALI
    Fell asleep almost immediately
‪I used to be able to fall asleep anywhere, but I have had a lot of trouble with naps in recent years. I had a migraine today and really needed some rest. I put on your Andy Daly episode on a 15 minute timer and conked out in 5. Thank you!!!‬
  • goobers18
    Very entertaining conversation
I laughed loudly listening to John Moe & Andy Daly discussing the lethality of lawn equipment
  • doxrus
    Hilarious
One of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. Both the boring topics and jokes you might miss if you’re not paying attention. I really like John Moe’s Depresh Mode and this is another home run for him.
