I find this podcast to be a wealth of information and insights on matters related to civic executive leadership. While Joe doesn’t shy away from tough/touchy topics, he offers perspective in an entertaining and conscious (of his bias) way that simply gives listeners the opportunity to catalog his view and decide for themselves. I admire Joe for being bold in how he expresses himself, for engaging on untapped issues, and filling a leadership void.

I generally do not consume podcasts on the Apple platform (I opt for my android phone), but dropped in to leave feedback using my iPad. Joe unabashedly says what needs to be said. Diverse content, with differing viewpoints. Has me questioning the value of my high dollar membership.

Joe has a platform to talk a lot about what many managers are afraid to say while trying to remain gainfully employed. It’s not all complaining by any means. The show discusses a lot of great insights and strategies for becoming a more effective manager. It’s real talk.

I have learned a lot from listening to Joe’s podcast. He is a talented podcaster and asks great questions.

Willing to ask the hard questions and question the status quo. I’ve learned so much already just listening to new ideas and thinking critically.

Whether you agree, disagree or land somewhere in the middle, Joe takes on the topics and asks the questions that many in local government have been afraid to put out there publicly. He’s created a space for our local gov heroes who get it done everyday to learn and grow. Definitely a good listen.

The CMU podcast is filled with great content that at the minimum makes you think. Even when the podcast doesn’t grab your attention early, hang on something is coming. Great stories, discussions, and tips. Highly Recommend

Joe is willing to go places others aren’t. He will openly talk about those taboo subjects within the public/municipal sector. You don’t have to agree with everything he states and yet you can still gain valuable insights from each and every episode. Give the show a chance if you haven’t done so yet.

This podcast fills a void. Joe is meeting the moment. City managers make America work. It’s a 24-hour, 365 days a year job - that is often thankless and overlooked. Well, Joe looked. It gives the managers a voice. It humanizes a critical profession and its professionals in a fair and fearless way. I couldn’t be more happy with this podcast.

City and county management looks easy from the outside but it isn’t. Dealing with citizens, employees, and elected officials all while trying to balance budgets and improve services is a hidden challenge. Thanks to Joe Turner the curtain has been pulled back.

Every week I tune into the Joe Turner and the “ City Manager Unfiltered” podcasts and have shared with others. Joe and his guests help me tremendously with my job a Municipal Manager. Give it a try.

I just bought Joe a cup of coffee. Everyone who listens should as well. He’s championing all of us in a profession that is rife with risk. He adds tremendous value to the space. Thank you, Joe.

A must-listen for any public manager or aspiring public manager. Good blend of insights, advocacy, advice and humor.

The content and topics are great, and the host and guests are engaging. I would encourage leaders in public service to give it a try. For me, the rub is with the “unfiltered” aspect of the podcast. I love that this podcast dives into some of the most challenging aspects of public service leadership and local politics. However, the host will go on angry rants or he’ll slam, discredit, and aggressively tease people or organizations. Bad shared-governance behavior and practices, bad contractors, and self-serving leadership should be called out. Unfortunately, the host sometimes does it with derisiveness, which sounds immature and is off-putting to me. From my perspective, the host’s “unfiltered” approach distracts from the message.

I appreciate a podcast that provides some perspective and insight on being a public sector executive.

Joe brings value in a time where everyone else is bringing fluff or chaos. One of my connections on LinkedIn liked a post by Joe about 8 months ago and it came up on my feed. It was one of the first and only times I felt like someone was actually providing value on LinkedIn. I continued to follow and find his opinions/comments very insightful even if I didn’t always agree. For someone climbing the ladder quickly in the public sector, the podcast has given me perspective and knowledge that has allowed me to avoid certain mistakes and maximize my value.

This podcast is the first that I have ever listened too. I follow Joe closely on Linked In and really enjoy his content. I am hooked and I am only 4 episodes in! Keep it going Joe. Pa Borough Manager here.

It's about time that someone created a forum for straight talk about current events in the world of municipal government. In my thirty years in local government, I only met one city manager that talked straight and *unfiltered.* He was fired several times, but he had something too few municipal officials have - credibility. Congratulations, Joe! I'm a fan.

I don’t agree with everything Joe says, but I certainly agree with the heart behind this podcast. His episodes are well researched, documented, and thought-provoking. A must listen to podcast for those in local government.

Joe does an excellent job highlighting the good, bad, and ugly related to managing a local government agency. His no holds bar approach to difficult topics is refreshing and thought provoking.

I have followed Joe on LinkedIn for a while now, but just had the opportunity to listen to the podcast for the first time during some solo travel. It is very insightful and he says a lot of what others are thinking, but too afraid to say. As a female aspiring City Manager I was slightly turned off by his comment in Episode 3 about being happy involves having “a full belly and empty balls”, but not enough to knock any stars as his overall content is fantastic.

Joe took the less traditional route to become a city manager and I appreciate that. His commentary about and his passion for our profession is refreshing. I appreciate his continue support of our colleagues across the country.

Municipal Manager Friends, I finally had some significant drive time alone, which means that I got a chance to catch up on several episodes of City Manger Unfiltered podcast. I started following Joseph Turner last year when he was sharing stories about the unfortunate situation in Goddard KS and I appreciate that he continues to highlight some of the pitfall's of city/town management. Joe is tenacious in his defense of the "City Manager" position. I'm also convinced that he is being paid by the Kansas Dept of Tourism for the first minute of many of his podcasts. I'm apologizing to him now if I disagree with his assessment of my home (the one I was born and lived in until I was 21) state; I gave up on the state once the Dept of Tourism took the "Land of Ahhh's" tag line away. Back to the real story, Joe is doing some good story telling about the inner workings of Town Management and the need for personal development as will as avocation of the manager themselves. As with any podcast, the listener should have follow up questions and thoughts, you may even disagree with something he says, but if you are interested in what other managers are learning, dealing with, or have gone through, I think this podcast is worth a listen.
