    Best Retro Gaming Podcast Around
It’s a shame this podcast isn’t more popular. It’s fantastic and blends goofy fun, opinions, interviews, and educational topics. If you’re expecting them to talk about Zelda every episode or something, it might not be for you. They’ll discuss pinball, golden era arcade games, the C64 and other topics the usual retro podcasts won’t touch. But even if you’re not familiar with those topics I’d recommend listening because it’s fun to learn!

    End the Retro VGS ranting...PLEASE.
Enough already with the Retro VGS ranting, bashing and personal attacks. We *all* know that the Retro VGS is not going anywhere. That is clear and over. This podcast needs to lay off that topic and focus on useful content, the way it used to be. The hosts have a personal vendetta against the Retro VGS creator and that might be completely valid, but we have been listening to this for months now and it's time to put it to bed. Let's get on with proper retro gaming content. Please.

    Best Retro podcast ever!
After years of listening to game themed podcasts I have to say I look forward to retro gaming roundup every month. I guarantee if you listen to this show long enough you'll end up at an arcade auction and find yourself an owner of a piece of video game history. That new host that took over for SOCAL is amazing!

A hilarious college course on retro games
This is the best retro podcast. Exclusive Interviews, in depth collecting and tech segments and lots of laughs. I have learned so much about the history of the video games industry from this podcast I can hardly believe it. Thanks Scott, UK and SoCal for keeping me entertained while I had nothing to do in Ohio.

Very Entertaining and full of great Information
If you dont like Long Podcasts look somewhere else. If you do like hearing about classic and retro arcade games and pinballs from the 70s 80s and early 90s then you found your new home. All three of the Casters, Socal Mike, UK Mike and Scott have something to offer month after month. Top tens are always a highlight surrounded by little nuggets like it came from Mame and Hardware Flashback. It is also nice to see the community get involved durring the live news. My only wish is that it was ten hrs a month instead of six. Keep it up guys.

Good content. Too bad they're terrible speakers.
"Um uh um uh you know uh uh um uh uh uh um and then uh um uh." C'mon fellas. Learn how to talk. It's extremely painful as a listener trying to get through a segment when you say "uh" every other word.

    Very great!
RetroGaming RoundUp is, quite honestly, the best retro gaming podcast on the web. Hosted by two knowledgable, well-spoken hosts and SoCal Mike, RetroGaming Roundup will have you hooked faster than you can whip off a pair of Sansabelt pants. Simply put, RGRUP is to gaming podcasts what Space Invaders was to gaming mascots. So splash on a bit of Stetson, grab a pair of headphones, and let the hosts of RGRUP take you away on a whimsical, magical journey up their fun dungeon. My one piece of advice to the hosts: don't change. The show is brilliant just as it is.

    Saved my marriage
Just kidding. But seriously the LONGEST retro podcast out there... Also my favorite.

    The best
I listen to a lot of podcasts, but this one is by far the absolute best. Between the three hosts these guys are all, knowledgeable, informative, humorous, technical, and very entertaining.
  • Tremoloman
    Outstanding podcast!
I've been listening to the show since it's inception. All three hosts are very informative and entertaining. If you have even the slightest interest in Retro Gaming this is your podcast!

    Great Gaming Podcast!
If you want to immerse yourself in classic gaming, Retro Gaming Roundup is the podcast for you. It's crazy length really lends to enjoying it in bits and pieces, like when I'm driving, or when I'm playing video games myself! Three guys who lived in the era in question, Scott, SoCal Mike and UK Mike discuss everything from Combat to Sega Dreamcast! They frequent many, if not all of the retro gaming conventions, and interview many of retro gaming's most influential people such as David Crane (beloved programmer of Pitfall!), D. Scott WIlliamson (the guy who managed to squeeze Star Castle onto a 2600 cart) and the guy who heads up the Classic Gaming Expo who's name escapes me at this time. Scott's incredibly in-depth hardware knowledge of arcade, pinball and home video game machines is quite informative if you've ever thought "how does that work?". SoCal Mike brings the everyday gamers' look upon the games of yonder, balancing the other two guys when they discuss incredibly obscure games, and has a love of games that are very accessible and not incredibly rare or difficult, et cetera. UK Mike brings what it was/is like to be a gamer overseas in Europe, and is very entertaining. The Positives: Great Game Chat Great Interviews Incredible Information Very Entertaining Discussion The Negatives: Sometimes the Length can get out of hand, if I can fall asleep listening and wake up then next morning and it's still playing.... (not a big deal, though) They don't (or don't seem to) edit anything out, so sometimes you'll hear multiple takes of an intro and it makes the podcast a little disorganized at times. Also they sometimes talk about things that seem like inside jokes (like James on James) that non-forum members and casual listeners (like myself) don't understand that are funny. Overall, a great experience and totally worth a subscription.

Best retro gaming podcast out there!
Chock full of retro gaming news & reviews. The 3 hosts are hilarious and extremely knowledgeable on games and the people who make them. I've read one review that complained the podcast is too long, I have the opposite complaint, I wish that they could cram even more content into each monthly podcast. The podcast covers everything about retro gaming, from the hardware to interviewing the programmers themselves. If you want to experience the nostalgia of games of yesteryear, give it a listen!
  • Neshead80
    My favorite podcast!
This is an excellent podcast with lots of in depth info on hardware. The top 10 bickering is great & the lists they come up with are rarely typical of what you would expect. All 3 hosts bring something to the table. It covers all the bases from arcades to consoles to vintage computers etc. This is definitely worth a listen.
  • soundchaser
    Great podcast
Bottom line is that these guys are retro gaming über nerds. Good segments, great content, solid production.
  • aPr0mPt
    Best podcast on my list
I have listened to every episode since day 1. I never write reviews or go in forums much but these guys deserve it. I enjoy every minute of their show and thank them for their extreme amount of effort that must go into producing something of this size. You guys are awesome! Keep up the great work! Al

    Well worth listening to...
Great, informative podcast; these guys know really know their stuff, and they're funny too. I just hope they continue to keep their political opinions out of the podcasts...
  • kynrek
    Awesome show
Quality information, interesting topics, helpful hints and funny as to boot!
  • Kevin Money
    By far the best
This is one of the best podcasts out there if you're into retro gaming, arcade gaming, and pinball. These guys are game fans first and it really shows in the quallity of what they put out. No snarky hater crap here just pure enjoyment of video games past and present.
  • MrFrumble
    It's all about the girth!
Do you think that video games and sophomoric gay jokes are for twelve year old boys? You would be correct. However, they are not ONLY for twelve year old boys. These guys put a lot of time an effort into this podcast and it shows. Don't be put off by the length. Work your way up and you will be able to handle it.
  • Darth_brown
    Good content, but some issues
While I really enjoy the content of this podcast, I just can't bring myself to listen anymore. A few reasons: 1. The hosts constant use of "You know", "ummm," and "right." I know they are not professional broadcasters but put a little effort into improving your speech habits. A few seconds of silence while you gather your thoughts is ok. 2. Conversations and topics are generally drawn out too far. The podcast could probably be half the length if they just got to the point.
  • G-Boobie
    Informative, funny, and entertaining
There are something like five hundred thousand podcasts dedicated to video games on iTunes, and who knows how many more on seperate RSS feeds. Most of these are similar in structure and content, which both perplexes and annoys me. To post a podcast in the first place, especially if you're not a member of the gaming press or gaming industry, presupposes that you have something interesting or informative to say that's worth your listeners time. Sadly, most podcasts fail that simple test. They're an hour or two of empty talk, similar to everyone else and purely disposable. What Retro Gaming Roundup has that most other podcast lack is actual informative content. Do you want to know how to discharge the monitor on an arcade cabinent so you can safely work on it? Would you like to listen in on a sweet gaming score from one of Californias famous swap meets? How about learning about the British micro computer era from an actual British person? All these things are more than just opinions: they're history, and they're not only interesting and informative, the three guys make it hysterical too. There are well conducted interviews with retro gaming luminaries such as Ted Dabney, co founder of Atari, Keith Robertson, CEO of Intellivision, and even one of the winners of the Nintendo World Championships. The podcast is long, but it's packed with a months worth of content, and unlike most other hobbyist podcasts, not a moment of it is wasted. If you're interested in not only being entertained, or swimming in a little nostalgia, but maybe even learning something in the process, give RGR a try. It's one of the finest gaming podcasts available.
  • GregZero
    Fun!
These guys are my kind of nerds: super into their hobby, but funny and unpretentious. Sometimes obnoxious, but not too offensive. You'll definitely roll your eyes every once in awhile, but I imagine that that's the point. Super long, so be prepared to listen in chunks. A good time and worth the time if you're interested in classic gaming of all types.
  • JCat56
    Change of Mind
After number of listens, some how or another, something homophobic almost always manages to slip in. You would think with the topic being retro, these guys are old enough to know better. Another subsciption deleted - I'll stick with Joystiq or Giant Bombcast, it's a shame as this is one of the few retro gaming podcasts.
  • DtownCobra
Good, needs to be broken up.
I like this podcast, but it either needs to be broken up into weekly segments or at least give this thing some chapters like other long podcast use. Info is great and the personalities are good. U.K your even alright!! lol.
  • Garrick G.
Very entertaining, but very closed minded.
iTunes is cluttered with mediocre comic book, movie, and video game podcasts. However the Retro Gaming RoundUp really sets itself apart with their excellent coverage of classic Pinball, hardware, swap meet/auctioning, and emulation discussion. Once in a while they will toss in something from left field like Tomy Pocket games. Second to none on these topics. The crew does lack a great deal of knowledge about Japanese developers from the 80’s and early 90’s such as Nihon Falcom, but this is a very specific niche and shouldn’t held against them. My only real complaint is how closed mined the hosts are concerning modern gaming. At least once every episode the topic comes up, and the crew comes across like angry old men. Example 1: Once in a while a host will play a terrible new $20 budget game for the Wii and use this as an example for why all modern games are awful. That’s like a young man playing E.T. or Porky’s for the Atari 2600 and dismissing all retro gaming. A quick Google search for “best video games of 2009” will revel a plethora of titles that are immeasurably better than Terminator Salvation or Classic British Motor Racing (both games are terrible, btw). Example 2: The hosts consider the Playstation 1 era to be modern gaming, never mind the fact that it’s “only” 16 years old. Was Pac-Man considered a modern game in 1996? Example 3: Lastly, they haven’t noticed retro style gaming is alive and well within modern gaming. ‘Splosion Man, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Mega Man 9 & 10, Shadow Complex, and the Pixel Junk & Bit Trip series are just a few of the amazing modern games using retro gameplay or presentation. I’m 31 years old, and my earliest memories center around play Atari 2600 with my parents. There is plenty of modern gaming to go around, as long as you don’t shake your fist and tell it to get off your lawn. In any event, if you enjoy discussion about Ms.Pac-Man bootleg variants, Mame cabinet accessories, and trivia about vector monitors, this is the best podcast on iTunes.

    I Love This Show!!!
For anyone who grew up in the 70's or 80's, or has an interest in classic gaming topics, this is an excellent show! Scott, Mike, and Mike have great chemistry and cover lots of great topics, including hardware topics, classic arcade machines and consoles, classic reviews, classic game commercials, and more. My only complaint is I wish the episodes were more frequent, but I understand that the episodes take lots of preparation and post production work. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS!!!
  • Dave Bernazzani
    Absolutely Brilliant!
For someone that grew up in the 80s and still love the classic games from that era, this podcast is a godsend. Well worth the listen - thanks guys!
  • Leathco
    The best old-school gaming podcast
This is simply an awesome show. The team has a great sense of humor, great segments, and aren't afraid of showing their opinions. They lean heavily toward arcade and pinball gaming, but cover the consoles as well. The podcast may seem long, but since it's monthly you can easily fit in all 6 hours in the course of the month. I can't recommend this one enough.
  • Sockpuppet999
    Fantastic!!!
This is the best Retrogaming podcast out there. Ive been listening since ep 1 and its a great show. The length is long and that is one of the great things about it. The banter between the three hosts is great. You can tell these guys know their stuff. Keep up the great shows.

The Best Retro Gaming Podcast Out There
What I love about Retro Gaming RoundUp is that the three hosts actually know what they're talking about. They grew up with games in the late 70s and early 80s, but are still actively part of the retro gaming scene. I love that they cover games before the NES, unlike a lot of other so-called retro gaming podcasts, and UK Mike brings a great perspective from across the pond. They also cover games on classic computers (c64, Apple 2), which is refreshing. The segments are as entertaining as they are useful - I usually feel like I've learned something after listening (especially the hardware flashback segment). The interplay between the hosts in their top 10 is always hilarious. Finally, the production values are as good as I've heard in any podcast - great musical interludes between segments, classic game ads break up the show, and there's always a balanced volume. These guys picked up where Retrogaming Radio left off and ran with it. They are - without question - the new kings of retro and classic gaming podcasts. If you like games from the 80s, it's absolutely worth subscribing.
  • theclockworkjerk
    Fantastic podcast
These guys really know their stuff. I really appreciate their consideration of mechanical games as well as video games as it gives the listener a more complete history of the industry. It's a long podcast but it's absolutely stuffed with information. Retro Gaming RoundUp is easily one of my favorite podcasts.
  • Reconandthestacker
    Great podcast
Their passion for the classics makes this a good listen.

this a great podcast. a little long but, I'm in my 40's so i know what games they're talking about. plus one of the guys likes F1, so i'm in just because of that! Keep it up, fellas.

    Great Podcast
Awesome job, you guys are hilarious, but also provide a lot of great information. Keep up the great work.
  • Albalabs
    Best of Retrogaming Podcasts!
This really is one of the best if not the best retro gaming podcasts. It has everything from tech discussions on arcade cabs as well as discussions on pinball tables. They also talk about Mame and emulation. You can really tell that these guys truly love and are passionate on retrogaming.
  • thefcpguy
Occasionally interesting, but LONG. Really long.
I keep trying to like this podcast- being a retro gaming fan I have attempted to listen to each episode. 5+ hours of content is too much at once. Give us shorter more concise shows, or at the very least chapter breaks to skip to the sections that interest a particular listener. The RetroMacCast podcast is a good model- weekly half hour episodes that keep the audience coming back for more. I don't want to come across as a hater, but this show could grab a bigger audience with just a bit more polish and editing.
  • Nobuo78
