    A balm for these times
So glad to find this podcast updated. I listened to Stephen years ago and after hearing his play, “A Good Day at Auschwitz,” I looked it up and am delighted to find more episodes! Stephen’s everyday miracles and wonder restore my sense of gratitude! I have needed the beauty and wisdom, the laughter and tears found in this podcast. Thank you!

    Tobo!
I’m late to the re-release but happy I can listen to an entire season! You’re back—as promised! I am very pleased. Like no time passed! I hope we can make this profitable (donations, media, etc.) it’s so much amazing work! Truly inspiring. I love the YouTube videos too (audio is my most accessible format). I love the story about you paying for school writing theses! It brought it all together, that is unfathomable to me, but now I know how you can write and storytell like you are unstoppable. The brain! So great to have this show.

    Don't miss this
I heard little bits of this on my local NPR station and didn't really get out until I had a chance to really listen to a full episode. It is a delight. The true stories and the story telling and the acting all combine to make a real treat. It's truly about life, live, and the entertainment industry and I can't wait until the next episodes. Even though sometimes they are king in coming.

    Ned Ryerson
As a child, I was always tickled by Stephen’s portrayal of Ned Ryerson in the film Groundhog’s Day. Stumbling onto this podcast as an adult has been nothing but joy. I love the way Stephen tells stories. He’s an excellent writer. Highly recommend.

I feel like I have a new friend
I discovered this podcast a few weeks ago and have started listening back at the beginning in 2009-10. I imagine this is how people felt looking forward to a beloved radio show back in the days before tv. I can’t wait to hear the next story and feel like I have a new friend. Stephen Tobolowsky is a gifted and witty storyteller, a gentle spirit, a passionate actor and lover of theater and film, a down to earth fellow Texan, and I love the little bit of a laugh he has to suppress when relating a particularly amusing or crazy detail. Listening to these stories brings me joy. I also now want to watch all his old movies!

    2020 Bright Spot
Discovering this podcast was one of the few bright spots of 2020. Each day, I've allowed myself to listen to one episode: I look forward to them like I do my nightly wine! The photograph of Tobolowsky tells you everything you need to know about the man behind the content. Yes, he is mischevious and witty and personable. And he's lived a very interesting life. Accolades also to David Chen for such a high-quality "product." I'm recommending the podcast to all my fellow podcast addicts and his books to everyone else.

We always look for Tobo when we watch tv and movies now. He’s such a delight. If I could only listen to one podcast - this is the one I would choose.

You've seen him, even if you don't know it. Now, get to know him.
Stephen Tobolowsky is the premier storyteller of our time. He tells tales from his life and they are always interesting, frequently hilarious, and often quite moving. Come in and know him better, man.

    This podcast is life changing.
This show means more to me than any other podcast I have tried. I was a listener before the lengthy break, and just recently was made aware of the new episodes. I devoured the new episodes and found just how much I had missed it. I was honestly moved to tears several times. I feel as though I gain better perspective on life and all its various tribulations through Mr. Tobolowsky’s stories. He may never know how much he has given me, but I will always be a listener, and I will always be grateful for his time. This is the best podcast.

    Get on the Tobo Train
Tobolowsky’s memoir-based podcast brings an attention to detail and pathos that recalls the best of Spalding Gray. His stories turn mundane moments into profound reflections on this rich, but fleeting life we’ve been dropped into. From a whirlwind evening with Faye Dunaway to indirectly inspiring Radiohead’s band name, his stories glide from sublime to tragic with the guide of his sonorous lilt. Hopefully he returns with more stories at some point, but for now his sprawling backlog has plenty to reward both first time and returning listeners.

    Tales from a master storyteller.
    Please do more episodes.

    Secrets of the universe
Masterful storytelling that more than hints at what makes life magical. (Good food & wine, success and failure, humor, love and loss, birth and death, and if we are lucky/blessed, strong human connections throughout) A reminder that no one ever dies as long as they tell their story. As Stephen’s grandmother relays in a dream: “We are all falling upwards” (if we live life well) Many thanks to Stephen and David for weaving such a rich verbal tapestry that celebrates the best of our shared humanity.

So much wisdom! Can’t wait to hear more. "To this point I had measured my life by how much I had effected the world. I think that is a common mistake... I think a more accurate measure of a life is the effect the world has had on us."

    Still working!
A friend recently told me about The Tobolowsky Files podcast - and here it is in 2018 ... many years later, and the stories and narratives are striking a deep chord in my soul and heart. Stephen has the ability to talk about life experiences is a deeply raw and brilliantly funny way. I am changed by his candor and truth. Wow. Start at the beginning and enjoy. Thank you Mr. Tobolowsky for taking the time to write and tell these amazing stories.
  • Pod Cruncher
    Entertaining, heartfelt, interesting
These shows are like little radio dramas from Stephen's life exoeriences where he is the writer, director and actor, and he is excellent at all three.
  • Phil773
    Moving and powerful
The Toboloski Files is moving and wonderful. It has made me question my purpose on earth, what I am doing with my time here, and the profound impact we can have on each other. Stories can have that effect, and Stephen Toboloski has managed to tell some of the most powerful stories I have heard.

    Great storyteller
Growing up in Dallas, not too far from the SMU campus, this brings back so many wonderful memories. The ME Moses in Snyder Plaza, the smell of bread baking at Mrs. Baird's (RIP) and what Dallas was like back then. But that's really neighborhood specific. If you aren't from Dallas, you will still love this podcast. The stories are amazing and have such an incredible flow to them. They are obviously well thought out and scripted, but don't come across as such. It's much more conversational, like you are at a party listening to a good friend tell about a moment in his life. Looking forward to seasons to come.
  • Yellow Beard
    Love. Love. Love.

    A life in the theatre...
I can count on one hand the number of people whose stories and experiences have moved me as much as Tobo's have in the past five years. His unflinching introspection and generosity in sharing his highest highs and lowest lows have made me think, almost killed me with laughter and brought brutally honest tears to my eyes on countless occasions, most recently an hour ago, when listening to Episode 74 - "What Is Hidden". These are stories told in the grand tradition of the elder passing down knowledge to those willing to listen, but not in a way any could call stodgy or ignorant. Tobo is like the cool uncle, or your best friend's father, the one who would constantly surprise you with casually tossed-off skills or anecdotes that you don't realize have shaped your life, until you're showing someone a special trick and all of a sudden, your first lesson - and the person who taught it to you - comes rushing back in a flood. All this, in addition to hilarious stories about what it's like to have your face chewed off by mechanical piraña! Don't listen alone. Share the experience of listening with someone you love. It's an investment in time that pays dividends.

    Best Podcast
Steven's life and experiences are told so eloquently and impactful that you will find yourself sometimes laughing so hard you can't breathe, blind from all the tears, thinking about your life because something struck a cord or stuck in an Aw moment. Forever grateful.

    Story telling at its best.
If ever there was a person who could convince you magic in the form of story telling existed it would be him. Bravo good sir, bravo, bravo, bravo!
  • frfiallo
    Thoughtful, eloquent meditations
A series of stories and experiences, most of which involves his experiences in show business. More memoirs than industry tell-all, but deeply engrossing. Bear in mind that there's a small degree of exaggeration in some of his tales-it's better to consider these stories rather than biography.
  • Latinforbad
