Listening to Jake Tapper — such a disappointment. I could have done without this episode

    In depth and so smart
Ezra Klein is reliable for smart, in depth reporting on today’s news, a rare and valuable gem in this age of misinformation.

    Poor judgment
Ezra is way too high on his own supply and is not nearly as thoughtful as he thinks he is.

    Get it done
I am a 70 year old liberal. I can see that our 70s environmental activism accomplished wonders. But. Ezra is right. The system has been co-opted by the right to prevent government from accomplishing anything. Abundance hits a chord with me. I do not understand the lefts problem with it. We need to build a green infrastructure. It will not happen in the current system.

    Need age limits for presidents!
Just listened to the Tapper interview. Why is no one but Scott Galloway talking about age limits for presidents??? You discussed what could've been done to prevent the Biden horror show and that's one way to avoid it in the future. As Scott frequently says, "biology always wins." This should also apply to members of congress. While Bernie is killing it, the other octogenarians need to step aside and allow space for new, younger voices.

    Jake Tapper Interview
I really like Ezra Klein’s work, but the Jake Tapper interview was difficult to stomach. He presents vital information about Biden, sure, but the second he called Trump a “pro,” celebrating his “deft” handling of the debate while excoriating Biden for his tardiness, I began to wonder whether Tapper had been promised a billion dollar jet.

    Antisemite
Lifelong progressive Jew here…I had a sign in my yard for 3 years for Justice for George Floyd, voted for Bernie in every democratic primary I could, and have been a lefty since I was president of the young Democrats in high school-I’m now at 49 years old social worker. Your take on antisemitism on the right and the left was yet another take by another Democrat that seems to completely leave out what Jewish kids in high schools and colleges all over the country are experiencing. It has become mainstream to chant for intifada, to tell Jews they should ashamed, that Jews are privileged and therefore completely undeserving of compassion even for hostages. I always believed our compassion for minorities was beautiful and authentic, but it’s been excruciating seeing my liberal friends lacking in any compassion when my son in his AP classes hears liberal kids joke about hating Jews, calling Israel evil and Hamas righteous, one kid told my son he should be ashamed to wear his Jewish star pajamas. My conservative friends have been compassionate but my liberal friends have not. Please don’t forget the human experience of antisemitism. As you talk about his chilling it is for Mahmoud Khalil and others to not be able to express themselves-I wonder where is the compassion for the hate Jewish students are living with in the name of social justice. I encourage you to speak to and listen to do some of these students instead of lecturing them.

    Great, except for the ads
What’s the point of paying so much for a NYTimes subscription if the app and the audio are stuffed with irrelevant, intrusive, and sometimes counter-to-the-topic advertisements? It’s like a black mirror episode.

    Solid. Intro music slaps
Really important voice on the left and asks excellent questions to guests. He doesn’t always hit the mark and still waiting for him to acknowledge his own part he played in the extremist left movement that he and others are rightfully trying to distance themselves from and return to normalcy. Intro music slaps

    Atwood interview
Being a little literature shy of Margaret Atwood I listened to your podcast with her. Wondering what would be a good starting book of hers to read. I enjoyed her insights and her giggle. And as always your interview talents. Thank you!
  • A real teacher!
Please invite a teacher to speak about AI
Re: future of education. Please ask a high school educator to come on your podcast and talk about what they have seen this year. As in someone who has been IN a classroom everyday 24-25. There is no silver bullet! Escape rooms are not an answer for most kids. I love your podcast but, as a teacher, this one sent me over the edge.

    The Anti White Racism Problem….
The Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party AKA The Far Left, Extreme Left, Identity Left, Woke Left, are in an Echo Chamber of Hate. They’ve become an Anti White Movement in a country that’s 60% White. How long before the backlash comes in the form of extreme violence? Tick Tock…….

    Maximum ad hominem
Wow, that review was crazy. What stood out to me was Ezra asking the obvious question “How can a follower of Christ be so enamored with our most pagan of Presidents?” Ross did not satisfactorily explain that enormous contradiction.

The perspective of Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was refreshing and nuanced. Thank you for this.

    Institutional Moderates
I wish they challenged normative arguments more. For example, Ken Rogoff is weak on monetary mechanics and his compositional fallacy for debt isn’t challenged by Klein therefore leaving subsequent discussions to be off the mark. Thomas Friedman ? This is why democrats lose. Appeal to authority combined with boring moderate takes.

Why does everyone get pro choice wrong?
Ezra. In your Ross Douthat episode, Mr Douthat repeats an all too common and incorrect GOP talking point that liberals want unfettered abortion choice through the e tire term of a pregnancy. This is entirely untrue. In fact, Colorado and New York are the most liberal states in terms of limits on unfettered choice to have an abortion, and these limits are 24-26 weeks. There are exceptions in the case of threats to the life of the mother and severe baby deformities, just as there are exceptions for the health of the mother in most right wing circles. Ezra - In the spirit of challenging dogma and propaganda with facts, this is a particularly important point to emphasize. Btw - love your show and Abundance!

Below the typical standard of this podcast
This particular conversation between these two friends is simplistic, and at times inane. Among other things, they both inaccurately, inappropriately, and offensively use the word "pagan" as a euphemism for autocratic, dictatorial, and extremely cruel behavior—or, to use a religious term, for evil. I finally stopped listening about halfway through.
  • Lost my project.
Thank you for your perspective and podcasts…
Hi Ezra, Your interpretation and clear interviewing talent - speaks to my desire to understand… and learn more. Your take on topics while inspiring really great conversation with your guests is most valuable. Thank you for being sincere, thoughtful, and an encouraging voice. Respectfully, Jennifer anne Borthwick-Leslie

    Douthat Interview
Klein’s interview with Douthat is fascinating in that giving a platform to the incoherent ramblings of a superstitious pseudo-intellectual is an odd choice. I’ve had the misfortune of sitting through Douthat’s inane yammering on other podcasts and he’s always struck me as completely out of place, out of touch, and sadly desperate to prove he has some insight into things he clearly knows nothing about. A toddler bumbling around at an adult birthday party, say. My initial instinct was to skip this one, but after reading reviews I just couldn’t resist, and the payoff was worth it! I don’t understand how Klein was able to keep from cracking up the whole time, and it makes me think he may have had him on for our amusement. Ross swings from lecturing on his understanding of his god’s will and comparing trump to Napoleon, to fairies, demons, ayahuasca, and essentially satanic panic in a matter of minutes. He’s 100% positive that taking mind-altering substances leads to a place of “evil,” having never experienced them himself. Ross, buddy, if anyone needs to drop acid and confront their inner demons, it’s you. It’s always funny to me when superstitious people conflate “morals” with subservience and desperation and insist that talking over people without saying anything of substance is the equivalent of having some sort of intellectual debate. 4 out of 5 stars - pretty darn funny!

    The show keeps getting better
Loved the longer form convo with Ross. They obviously had strong disagreements, but it was discussed so thoughtfully and respectfully. I learned a lot about both sides, and truly enjoyed the conversation!

    Executive power
I really like your show. I think our country needs to re-examine executive power. How do you think this could be done?
  • Litchfield8
    Such a hypocrite
So Ezra can’t talk about the ways Christians who support Trump abandon the central tenets of their faith because he’s not Christian but Douthat CAN talk about the spiritual dangers of psychedelics even though he’s never done them himself? Not to mention the disconnect Douthat fails to acknowledge between Jesus’ teachings and the Old Testament. Douthat’s just looking for ways to support his authoritarian views and pummels poor Ezra who’s afraid of offending him. Please! Someone offend him!!!

    Philosophy
Very disappointed in this conversation although I listed to it all the way through hoping, hoping to see some vestiges of knowledge of the basic readings in the two areas of concern. Ezra doesn’t seem to be cognizant of the basics of his culture, not just the Talmud and its various forms of argumentation but also of the Zohar and more importantly the Sefer Yetzirah. On the other hand Russ seems never to have explored the Christian writings from Augustine to St. Bernard. Disappointed.🦉

    More on Cass’ climate views
I don’t dislike Ross and I’ve listened to him on many a podcast. But I truly find his worldview incoherent. He thinks all western morality comes from only Christianity and for people who are not religious morality no longer has any basis?

    Sanity Check
Keep the good work Ezra. Your insights and conversations are much needed in these times. Your voice is heard across America. Always relevant, curious, intellectual, clear.

Few honest voice about Americas state globally
Real good analysis and synthesis about today’s America role in the world view. Not only did good job explain well the strength and advances Americas competitors, but not falling into the so called Washington narrative to keep misleading people who clearly have otherwise different opinions and eager to learn more. You provide objective yet respectful insights for people to understand better and will help them to make better decisions. You are the fresh air among the mist we are in now.

Updated review, Ezra has succumbed to the extreme leftists and fearmongering
I originally enjoyed this when Ezra questioned people and seemed moderate, but lately he has gone off the rails leftist with fearmongering and inviting extremist looneys on his show. Sorry Ezra i have to stop listening.

    Essential
A superb thinker and analyst, an excellent interviewer, one of the clearest articulators of complex issues and ideas - and with “Abundance”, likely to be one of the most influential voices for a new liberal agenda.
